How did you start?

I have recently started making youtube videos for so many reasons.

Two of the biggest reasons.
1. I love having a place to be creative.
2. I want to make people smile and be occupied for a short time even when life sucks.

I do youtube because it helps fill that void of loneliness, sadness and anger that's growing inside me. As someone affected and plagued by mental illness it's really the only way I am able to freely express myself and interact with others to help keep my mind at bay. Video making is probably what keeps me going these days as it's my only way of actually interacting with other people. Pretty pathetic but it's how I get by.

Doesn't sound pathetic to me. A few of the Youtubers I follow got their start during dark periods in their lives. Speaking from personal experience it can make the lows lower (when you feel you'll never make it and it is all a waste) but it also provides a creative outlet, something to focus on to pull yourself out of those lows, and maybe even a friendly community after a time.

Yeah that's true it always feels even worse when it feels like you're going nowhere but I'm glad I did start because I got to meet a lot of amazing people and make tons of friends!

This question has been asked several times on the forum and I would like to explain my answer in a little bit of detail:

Youtube has changed me. Before I began my channel early this year, I was an extremely camera shy person with a big inferiority complex. I was convinced to do this by another Youtuber who makes really good vlogs and is extremely comfortable in front of the camera. Being a Youtube personality really appealed to me and I wanted to give it a try not so much to be rich or famous, but to conquer my insecurities.

It was a big step for me because I didn’t quite know how to begin. I had a camera and a hobby but my biggest problem was, and sometimes still is, how to avoid getting tongue tied when the red light is blinking. My first few videos were awful. So awful that they never made it onto my Youtube channel. The first few videos that I did upload are better but still not great.

As I filmed more and more, the videos got better but I concede they still could use improvement. My very first uploaded video, which is my Homemade Doughnuts was the scariest because I filmed the first part of it in a public place (the gym) with a bunch of people, some I knew, others I didn’t standing around watching me. I planned it out a week in advance and even remembered a brief script in my head. I would recite the script out loud in my car while driving everyday until I got it right. It was a success. It was a huge step in overcoming the awkwardness we all feel about filming in public. I still go back and watch that video because I believe it was a turning point for me.

The biggest change is that the camera shyness is completely gone. In fact, I now love being in front of the camera and willing to do things I would never consider doing in the past such as dancing, wearing NO makeup, and acting like a clown. I can’t see myself not doing this because I’m really having so much fun now.

That is why I Youtube
Wow that's an incredible story. Great reasoning and pure passion behind your why. Thanks for sharing this amazing love for YouTube!

For my wife and I we want to share our lives with the world and show people that there is good out there among all the bad happening around us, and that it is possible to have fun amidst it all.

She also has a beauty channel to help inspire women to feel better about themselves when there is so much pressure from the media and social interactions.

I also have a gaming channel just because I have a love for PC gaming and iPhone games, but it's not as important to us as the other channels.

I started a long time ago making pretty awful videos, then stopped for a while, and got back into it for a reason I honestly just can't remember anymore. My girlfriend encouraged me, and the more I did it the more I enjoyed it. it just kinda ended up engrained in my personality, honestly. Even when I'm not recording or really working on something I'm thinking about it, and I'm always commenting on things. It just kinda... clicked.

I have loved games as far back as I can remember and when gaming with my friends some of the random stuff I come out with has them laughing their heads off and I don't even think I'm funny so since I have a rather boring and stressful job I use my games to relax and blow off steam so I make videos of me gaming so if people find it funny or helpful it may make their day better like it does mine when I game.

I started my channel to give something back to the community and that is teach the ones that do not know video editing and if it possible make them laugh in the process.

I've only just started making videos but my motivation is simply to have some fun. I too am camera shy so I figured the more I do it the more comfortable I'd become. Editing I also find incredibly fun (although I am completely new to it) so that's a fun activity for me to do.
