OK, I know my channel has only been live for 5 weeks, but I have been into filmmaking for a few years now. My best advice as a filmmaker/YouTuber would be: Do it now. Don't wait for THAT camera or THAT mic. I spent months wasting time trying to save money for the best camera and best sound equipment I could afford, when I should have been shooting on my smartphone.

In retrospect, I'd say; just use what you have, even if it's a basic phone. As time goes on your kit will improve and so will your videos, and you will always learn something new every time you make one. I think people want a shiny new YT channle with top quality picture and sound from day 1, but from what I've seen, most succesful YouTubers started out basic anyway.

If making a video/doc about a historic subject, include facts and figures that similar videos don't include. Take a trip to the library and read old texts on the subject, rather than taking it all from Wikipedia and sites like that. Also, don't just read from Wiki pages or other reports online, write your own scripts. It may sound obvious, but so many video scripts are plagiarized.

Something that I've been sticking with is trying not to get too "dramatic" over silly things. If you play your cards right, it could turn into a really funny moment!

Audacity is free and a godsend. Use it! Even if you aren't super tech savvy like I am, there are plenty of tutorials online. Wish I used it on my first couple of vids....

Don't monetize immediately. Concentrate on quality content and getting viewers. I used to monetize straight off the bat, but I made £0.11 in 5 weeks. It just isn't worth it. People will see the ads and probably just click off.

My ultimate piece of advice is don't be someone who asks "sub4sub".
Yes you can gain subscribers but at the end of the day is that the audience you want? People who care for their own success but not yours? As thats purely what asking for subscribers is. Its better to just take it slow, stay positive, work hard and the results will follow and you will gain that support and audience that you have always been wanting :)

Really hope people take my advice and read this because it is the truth!
Stay positive & believe in yourself :)

Dont beg for subs, views, likes makes you look cheap and pitiful ive left a comment from someone on my video so people can laugh at him lol
