What does everyone use for editing?

Right now, I'd like more control over audio, such as using audio from one clip on a different clip and as far as I can tell there's no way to do that with movie maker. In a perfect world it'd also be free lol. OS is Win8.

That's very easy to do on Final Cut Pro X, but that software does come with a pricetag and you'll need a powerful Mac (Preferably Macbook Pro 2015 or higher) to run it with a fair amount of disc space too. Does Movie Maker let you layer videos? Perhaps you could layer the video that has the audio you want to use, behind the video you want your viewers to see?

Not that I know of, but I'll try!
 
Youtube Editor...... Is it weird that I only use that one? I find it convenient, just upload the vids and put them together!
 
I use hitfilm 4 express , find it pretty simply and easy to use. I find many other programs over do it on too many functions and can divert you from doing what you actually intended. Also its initially free and also has more features now than the previous models. The atomic particles and music wave patterns i found a good addition. Main feature i also found great for my needs is you can choose to buy what you need instead of purchasing a massive package and only using a quarter of a program. which has then cost you over £200 squid.

Im having fun with it , and im a complete novice to any designing. :)
