Depends really some intros are just better then others. Having an intro can just turn people off. Them intros with the gun shooting a segment of the wall open and the name is xX360noscopeXx or some crap just instantly turns me off :p

I have the tiniest static effect at the start of my videos before jumping straight into the content. I feel like it's recognisable, and yet not time consuming to the point you just wanna start skipping it.

Hey there everyone!

I've been having a debate with myself on whether I should have an intro at the beginning of my videos or not. I've always had an intro at the beginning of my videos, but I've been thinking more about it. I like having my intro since it helps to brand my videos and show the original creator. But I know that viewers usually take like 10 seconds to decide if they want to watch a video or not, and most intros are about 6 seconds-10 seconds long. I don't know, i've been on both sides of the fence lately.

What do you guys do? Do you use an intro at the start of your Videos? Why and why not?

Thanks and have a great day!

Ive been thinking about this too, and personally if i were to make an intro like clip, i wouldn't put it at the very start of my video, and heres why:

If the viewer decides if he/she wants to watch the video within 10 seconds of starting the video, maybe you should put a short clip from the video (preferably 5-15 seconds) to grab their attention, then put an intro that is 5-10 seconds long max.
This is what a lot of TV shows that i watch and watched have done. some popular shows that do or have done this regularly are: Breaking Bad, Its always sunny in Philadelphia, Southpark, and along with some other shows.
A lot of popular youtubers do this as well if you havent noticed, they will put a clip kind of explaining the video (but leaving the viewer with some interest) or just an interesting/funny/cool part of the video to grab the viewers attention.

For me im probably not going to have an intro, because of the style of videos that i do don't really require an intro, and it also doesn't fit the style of video that i do.

For your videos you may want to do an intro, but for the love of god don't do one of those pre-made free download intros that 90% of every gaming channel uses. That will make most people want to leave the video.
also like i said, try and keep the intro short.

i see a lot of people having around 8-10 second 3D intros in their videos and in my opinion it makes me uninterested. a lot of people have intros so having one (again in my opinion) doesn't make you stand out from the masses. i actually enjoy a video more if they just start the video and say an intro, just a hi or a catch phrase, because you have to know that attentions spans are very veeeeery short, so you need to get that hook in the first two to three seconds, its off putting to see a logo or an intro drag across the screen for 8 seconds. then again thats all my opinion, i could be completely wrong. hope this helps man ((( :

I agree with the other posters saying not to use one and instead use a clip from the video itself as a hook if possible. Once I knew to look for it, I realized how many popular Youtubers use that trick. I used to use an intro but finally decided to ditch it as I slowly became more comfortable with editing.

On related note I've recently fallen in love with end cards. They are fun to design and can provide useful branding links for those that stick around to the end of the video.
