I agree that a very short intro is quite OK, however if its any longer than 10 seconds I think people, at least I k ow I would get bored and probably click away

I'm thinking of adding a 5 second 2D animated intro to my videos.

I make prospecting videos and so thinking of the following: an outdoor scene with mountains in the background and a stream in the foreground, a prospector walks to middle of screen, hits his pick into ground, gold nugget emerges, prospector then days "gold" in that old timey prospector type voice...that's it. It will include my logo, the video title, the text "like, comment or subscribe", and a subscribe button. I have a friend who can animate this for me for free :) if I choose to go with it that is.

Most of my videos are on average about 15 minutes long, and I release them on average every 8.5 days. I figure being longish and not the most frequent videos that an intro won't be too intrusive, repetitive or annoying. What do you think?

If I do go with it I will probably have a hook before the intro (a ~5 second clip of excitement (lol) from later in the video).

Sound like a decent overall strategy?

I think it's much more important to build up a brand than an intro - say your name at the start of every video, have a recognisable banner and avatar. People probably don't care about a two second animation and plenty of bloggers and vloggers seem to have stopped putting intros on their videos.

Duly noted. I still do like the idea of it though. I can always give it a go and if it isnt working I can just remove it and then you can say I told you so haha. Thanks :)

Has anybody ever watched FrankieOnPCin1080p? He always shows a funny or really cool moment before switching to his longer intro, and then into the video where he introduces himself, talks about what hes playing etc. I really enjoy his videos and was thinking about trying to do some of my videos in a similar style, is this a good idea?

Personally I Love intro's but not to long at all. I think they can do a great job of branding your channel, but they can also work against you if they are too long. I think the one i have just created (in the video signature) is perfect length. Let me see some of your intro's and I would love to give some feedback!
