How do you come up with your video ideas?

I've always kept a notebook of ideas since I was a kid, now the notebook is just on my phone. I've always had more ideas than I have time to do, so the best ones get done first. I never have to just "try" to come up with ideas, the ideas come to me constantly. I think you just need to create an environment where your brain is free to have some downtime and ideas come from that. Mowing the lawn and taking a shower are times when your body is on auto-pilot so your brain is free to roam and you'd be surprised how many awesome ideas hit you. So manual labor and bathing are my recommendations. Don't look for ideas.

A lot of my ideas come up when I'm not thinking about it. Like in the bus, or in bed. So I always have a notebook with me so I can immediately write them down. Afterwards I'll work them out to a script.

Something that I do a lot when I am running low on doable ideas, I usually take something popular and adapt around that. You know parodies, I take the p**s out of things :D Its a good idea to get ideas flowing when you choose a theme (even if it isn't a parody). Makes things a lot simpler.

Otherwise I pretty much do the same thing as everyone else, it just happens to come to me and I write it down.

Something that sometimes helps me when I am trying to write a coherent story rather than just the usual skits I make is the Dan Harmon's: "Hero Story Circle".

Its an interesting little circle that shows the general following of the hero's journey. It fits into a lot of films!

Take a look:

I mainly think of all my ideas in the shower or in bed :D

When I think of an idea I put it into my notes on my phone and the next day I look through them and decide what would be a good idea.

I get ideas when I'm doing something totally different from youtube, like sitting on school doing a test or something. Other then that I get inspiration from other youtubers, though I try to be a little different from them.

A lot of my ideas are pretty basic at the moment. I have learnt, from hours of reading about productivity and creativity, that ideas come to you when you're bored. That doesn't mean turn everything off and sit down at the couch. That means do something mindless, such as walking without any music. You also want to stay away from any screens as they are a distraction. That is why a lot of your ideas will typically come when you are at school mindlessly doing maths sums, etc.

I look at my game collection, pick one, play it, then I talk about it.

I have a very simple process of picking what content to make. The difference comes in how I make the videos really. Sometimes they're humorous, smart, or even stupid.

All depends on what works best for the game I'm reviewing.

For me a majority of my ideas come to me right before going to bed. When its just me and my thoughts. Sometimes a bad thing, sometimes very useful...

For my causes my videos are based on my roadtrips. So before the trip I normally have a notepad and write down must do things meanwhile on this roadtrip so my video idea's come to mind and I'll know what would be best to shoot. I also go into abandon hospitals and such so with that. My group and I we focus on what would fit the video series for these and such. Its fun and interesting to do.

I used to try and find whatever song was the most popular or on it's way to be the most popular and then try and quickly cover it before it faded away. But recently, I'm trying to stick to my guns as an actual artist and just cover my favourite songs (as long as I can make them into my own)
