Exactly last week I got on 8 of my videos a dislike - I assume it's from the same person as it they were in the same day, on the same series.
Didn't care that much, as a dislike will help me as much as a like to rate my video higher :D

I wouldn't stress if I were you, just keep posting good videos and ask for honest feedback from people for your videos - there is a section here.
Like that you'll know what to improve if any

Bro a dislike comment actually helps with future video hierarchy!

Do not worry about it, recently i have been getting dislikes on my videos (around 50:50 like to dislike(rs)) but it honestly does not faze me at all, notice that all of the big youtubers get dislikes on their videos irregardless of how good the video is! Keep your head up and keep making your videos better and better, thats the only way to silence a hater! :D

Brother, hater's gona hate. please bear on mind. they are marketing tools for you. only they can adviertise your channel fastest way. accept them as your marketing tools & do what you love. believe me one day you will reach the place you looking now.

:)

I get dislikes a lot.. like seriously
Mostly because of me creating videos with quite a good thumbnail for people and making it get up there in the search rankings but when the people really do watch it, they expected much more than a plain freaking boring commentary.. on which is why I switched to funny moments (ish) - like type of video on which I still get dislike for.. such as my Dota 2 video (because Dota 2 professional players hater how I sucked) :mstickle:

Some people just have to much time and u should not take this to seriously. Keep in mind that even dislikes may help you to spread out your video more because it also counts to youtube interaction, but thumbs up help better offcourse. Don't take it personally when they don't even write a commentary with it.

It frustrates me because you don't get to know what a dislike means... if there were a comment saying 'I thought this video was bad because the sound was hard to hear' or 'I don't like this video as I think they are wrong, that game is the best!' or 'The interviewer is ugly' or something it would be useful criticism I could take something from, or ignore as appropriate... knowing something may be wrong with a video, but no way to know what is not helpful or useful feedback.

If the thumbs down are useless, so are the thumbs up... I will start ignoring both to be honest and just look at viewer retention (although that also pisses me off as it gives averages so there is no way to know at what point most people drop out - so if people either watch the whole thing, or only 20 seconds, I would know to look at the first 20 seconds for something wrong) so basically... we have no useful metrics! :s

With websites, you can see where visitors 'bounce' or exit the site, which exact pages are causing the issue or loosing people etc. But I can't see that with youtube as averages give no specifics, they are the opposite of specific in fact lol :)

Umm, yes there is.
Go to audience retention, type the specific video you want to see stats on, and it will show you the % being watched through time.

It's all averages though right? So if I have 2 viewers, one who watches 20 seconds and one who watches all of it it will look like a line from 100% smoothly down to 0%... rather than a 100% line to 20 seconds then a straight vertical drop to 50% and a straight horizontal for the remainder...
Or is there a real figures version where I can see the actual dropoff points? Maybe I read it wrong... or there is an option I can switch on? Again, new to this! :)

Thanks![DOUBLEPOST=1456843950,1456843729][/DOUBLEPOST]Ok, I think maybe it's that my videos don't have any specific drop offs and have a general curve... ^_^

It shows you the % watched per view averaged out. The time component is still there to see where people are dropping out of the video - and no it won't necessarily look like a smooth line, only if viewers are leaving at gradual rates. It's even possible to have a negative slope that turns into a positive slope because perhaps people skipped over a portion of your video but resumed watching the later bits of it.

So say you have 2 views, and one person drops out nearly immediately, but the other person actually rewinds the video and re-watches the whole thing on 1 view. Your video would actually start at 200% retention and then quickly drop down to 100% at the specific time when that first person left.
And so on and so forth but calculated cumulatively for everybody who watched the video.

In short, it's showing you exactly what you want to see.

I wouldn't worry about it too much.... I am get nailed by US Republicans at the moment for the content of one of my videos. Nasty comments, the works. Doesn't really effect me in the real world though, so I don't let it bother me :)
