What happens when you miss a goal?

I had a vague goal with respect to subs and money earned when I started YouTube a year ago and I have not even come close to reaching those goals.

I don't have specific advice to give you, but what has helped me is being on this forum. I realized my original goals were unrealistic and unlikely to be achieved in a year because to do so would have been like winning the YouTube lottery. Being here and getting the constant reminders to put my thoughts and energy into working on things I can control (better videos, better SEO, better branding and thumbnails, promotion, etc) has helped me with my disappointment and with my channel. I'm trying to mostly focus on the quality and content of my videos because that's where I believe my channel can stand out from the crowd.

I still look at subs and money earned all the time despite wishing that I wouldn't. Oh well. It's hard not to focus on the things that are easily measured.

Good luck with your channel.

I don't set goals that I have no control over.

In my mind, "acceptable" youtube goals would relate to upload schedules, trying new things, etc.

Putting a time limit on something like subscriber growth or view count is just setting myself up for trouble. I can control what I put out into the universe, but I can't control the universe's reaction.

The best thing to do is just to react in consequence to the way your videos are perceived.

If you don't meet that particular youtube goal, you persevere. If you want 100,000 subs and 20 million views, making great content and perseverance will get you there.
