I guess they implemented this earlier this year, so channels that have started in 2016 should not be affected by this, at least that´s my take on it!
I´m not bothered by it since I have over 30k views on my channel. I remember there was a time you had to have 10k views PER VIDEO to monetise it!

This is very true. I can remember looking to get involved with youtube in 2012 because of the partners program (where you could make money from uploading videos, who would believe it!). I lost interest when I realised I hadn't chosen the right niche (wish I'd stuck with it).

And yes, the requirements used to be way tougher than now.

10k views isn't that tough (will feel hard but keep going and it will soon happen), and you wouldn't have made much revenue from that anyway.

Also I can definitely confirm from my channel that if your channel was monetised before they set the new rule, you didn't need to then hit the 10k first if you hadn't already.

They had to do something to curb the proliferation of pirate types starting a new channel, stealing content and monetising it immediately as their own. I don't think that measures go far enough to combat that, but it is a start.

Hi Jake!

How's it goin' my dude?

I started my channel on Aug 23, 2016 so just over a year now. I've just recently started becoming much more active on my channel which is why I'm on this forum to learn all I can so my channel will grow. At one time I had a few dollars from ad revenue, but I haven't looked at that in some time. I know I don't have enough for them to send me a check so I really haven't bothered checking again because of that. :).

Maybe this whole 10k thing is just for brand new channels and not ones that have been around awhile like ours. I'm gonna keep monetizing because I've heard from others on this forum that when you monetize videos YouTube promotes them more. I don't know if that's still true or not, but it doesn't cost anything to monetize so I'm gonna keep doing that.....while I still can. :).

I'm no expert at ad placement either. I normally have one ad at the start of my video for less than 15 minute videos, but if I do a gaming live stream that last an hour or more I'll place like two ads, equally spaced in the video. I totally don't know if that's optimal, but that's what I do.

How did you get $23.00 on your account with 2k views? You must have had a very generous advertiser. I would very much like to have them advertise on my videos. Lol. :).

Take care my friend. :).

Strange right, can you only place ads over 10min videos? as im only able to place ads on one of my videos and thats 12 mins long. here a picture of that $23 issue is in my ad sense and youtube its like i wasnt given it but it said i was strange huh, also thank for the reply :D[DOUBLEPOST=1505564327,1505564227][/DOUBLEPOST]

Hmmmmm.....

That's a very good question my dude.....lemme check.....no, I just monetized several videos that were under 7 minutes long the other day, but on those videos I had no choice in the placement of ads other than I could place an ad at the beginning and end of the video. Nothing in between. To answer you question though I can indeed place ads on videos less than 10 minutes. That's strange you can't even monetize the video at all if it's not over 10 minutes.

According to the image you linked, that $23.33 you were talking about is the CPM. That's the Cost Per One thousand impressions for ads on that particular video, so I think.....and I could totally be wrong about this.....because I'm an engineer.....not an advertiser :).....that what this means is the advertiser who places ads on your YouTube video would have to pay $23.33 for 1000 impressions (1000 times the ad is seen by viewers). At least that's my understanding of this. Maybe someone else will post here to correct me if I'm wrong. It wasn't the amount you made on the video though since, at the time, 3 people watched your video. Not the 1000 needed for that CPM, but that dollar amount number seems really high though. It seems like it was calculated incorrectly which was likely why YouTube removed it. I've seen $5.00 CPM amounts on some of my videos, but I haven't earned that amount from ads....yet. :).

Sorry if I'm telling you stuff you might already know. I just wanted to mention what I noticed. :). Did you see $23.00 as the total amount that you had earned on another screen?

well thanks youtube

"In April, we announced that we'd stop showing ads on channels with fewer than 10,000 lifetime views. Due to a technical issue, you may have still seen monetisation icons in Creator Studio. This has now been fixed. "

that blows that theory of us being able to monatize out the water. i can no longer place ads damn guess i got to wait for that 10k now

So I had this displayed on my dashboard today:

Seriously YouTube? I only have 6,000 views after 4 years of hard work, and now you throw this hurdle at me?

Are you too affected my this? Any thoughts or strategies to get past this?

i try to release content everyday, more videos even if there an average of 30 people watching thats 30 per video. i have 53 videos thankfully i have a few that are over a 100 views ones 600 so it helps when one gets a bit of traffics
I also release almost daily (6 a week), but an average of 30 views per video is a dream. Right now getting more than 15 for my non Pokémon TCG videos is a success.
