Also what is the best method from here on in till cpm recovers? Keep publishing regulary or back off a little and focus efforts elsewhere till CPM recovers?

Continue uploading quality content regularly. CPM drop doesn't mean anything if your fanbase is constantly growing.

I'm just echoing what clerick said.

This is nothing new, income plummets in the days after Christmas and will (typically) start to get back to normal sometime in early Feb.

That said, the last couple months of the year are when income should have been the best... so it should all balance out in the end.

Cool, so in your experience how long does it take to recover?

I think last year Jan and Feb were pretty ordinary. It picked up a little from March onwards, and then really picked up from August until the end of the year.

January is so far even worse than expected. 2015 was generally speaking not as good as 2014 for me, but I could live with it.
So far January is at a really unacceptable level, yet it doesn't effect my plans for 2016.
It's just sad not to get what you deserve.

I'm on youtube since 2006 and i use monetization since 2011. I think 2016 will be the last year to earn money with youtube.

$3 CPM for 2016 January
$6 CPM for 2015 January
$12 CPM for 2014 January

Youtube CPM is now extremely low.
No one speaks of the decline in advertising revenues on youtube year to year.

Seeing CPMs for the 1st/2nd of Jan as being 170% up from those dates last year here..

It's very hard to accurately compare two dates especially a whole year apart because it's unlikely the demographics are the same.

Look the average CPM for 2013, 2014 and 2015. It's decreasing each year more and more. Why youtube launched youtube red?
Because advertising revenues are falling with the development of mobile and adblock.
CPM getting lower

CPM is getting lower, and? If you have decent fallowing and you are relying only on ad sense money then you seriously need to reconsider your business model.
