YouTube is Removing Videos - Are You Affected?

And to answer the topic of the thread:
Yes. Everyone is affected. This is BIG! Even if the effect is not yet that immediate for non kids channels, it will effect all the channels, just like the first adpocalypse did.
The loss of trust from advertisers is catastrophic. Can Adwords/Adsense recover from this? Usually if a product is negatively affected in the market to this extent, it needs a big retool. Perhaps the whole concept of ads, how they are served and who sees them, will be re-evaluated? Certainly lots of unknowns going forward....

@KidsCorner what happened to your channels?? Videos are gone..
They are not gone as in permanently gone, but I deleted it all and will start with kids friendly videos that nobody can complain about. No excessive candies, no food wasting, no big toys, nothing dangerous, nothing too silly, nothing that can be misinterpreted as violent/aggressive and also make sure we don't record anything near beaches/swimming pools. I reuploaded one video on Kids Toys and Adventures just now (our recent upload) but now without compilation attached to it. I think the video should be kids friendly enough, hoping youtube will re-enable my monetization the coming weeks/months.

Well this is the second time this is happening in the year and in a period of less than 9 months. YouTube shows the will to do it - by removing without second look videos or even channels that even slightly show signs of inappropriate content.

YouTube still has one big selling point that advertisers can't ignore - big amount of the people who go to YouTube to find additional information about products they intend to buy. Be it simple no words unboxing, review, test or even destroying (I am sure manufacturers love this) of product, there is the golden opportunity the advertiser to come and show off his related product to a willing buyer. Neither Facebook nor Instagram, Reddit or other user generated content sites have such huge amount of product reviews and entertainment.

So the current model will stay the similar way (not need to change it, unless better way is found). But YouTube already has 2 strikes with advertisers, the 3rd may be a final. The most strict they can do is to allow the revenue model only to pre-approved content creators and closely monitor their content, even add the need to approve videos before monetization (bye bye small creators).

I always try to tell myself to listen to the voice of reason what comes from a woman, but being a guy, I chase trends and go off in all sorts of directions instead of keeping a steady course, and this is the result. If I had listened to her ages ago, we never would have had bad baby videos, and maybe we would have had 200k subs not 900k, but at least now we would be making $100-$200/day and not $0/day.

I can tell. Just remembered how our wives were talking not doing YT in the first place but we convinced them to give it a shot. My wife was just telling me that yesterday. “I told you no nerf”. But like you said the voice of reason that comes from a woman...priceless.[DOUBLEPOST=1511531375,1511531028][/DOUBLEPOST]
(bye bye small creators).

Well that’s gonna hurt.

Beaches and pools should be fine, if we can dig up some non-controversial 1920s beach attire....

Oh wait!! I can see the back of the knee on the dudes, quick, demonetize the video and ban the channel.
I shot two videos in spain this summer and I’ve spend a lot of time scanning each frame for boobs and blurring them out.
The real reason is that I didn’t think much of pedophiles really who could watch kids at the beach or pool. I mean, when we’re at the beach sick people are there too which I can’t do anything about. But me and the wife decided we won’t show content at the beach and pool anymore to be 100% sure to stay away from sick minded people.[DOUBLEPOST=1511531617,1511531390][/DOUBLEPOST]

My wife talked me into nerf actually while I was not sure if it as advertizer friendly, I wanted more silly stuff while she had hollywood style cartoons in mind that made the girls look tough and cute at the same time. On other occasions she talked me out of certain trends, like wasting food. We had a lot of m&m’s videos where we seem to waste them, but in reality we just shot the same m&m’s using different shots and using them for 1,5 years already. We call them our stunt-m&m’s :)

Hindsight is 20/20. I disagree with you about playing safe, it's the people who take risks who more times than not will be the successful ones. The mentality that made your channel successful and then caused it to fail will cause you to reach success again, I'm sure of it.

With rough estimates from SocialBlade's bottom 500 worst performing channels (we're 81, we were 70 early this morning), the top 100 of that list represent 52 BILLION views removed from YouTube.

Let that sink in for a moment.

That doesn't include Webs and Tiaras or Toys and Funny Kids Surprise Eggs. In total are we looking at 100 billion or more views lost?

I know that not all those views were from inappropriate or harmful content. This is an extreme over-reaction to what is really a minority of bad actors. I think all responsible channels wanted YouTube to clean up the space but this is a bit insane. I do wonder what the consequences for YouTube will be in general. As well, when will this style of purge hit other verticals?

As well, I wonder how many of those videos are being pulled by creators as a reaction to what YouTube is doing, and how many of those views are actually YouTube pulling videos. How much does this parallel a stock market situation where traders dump a perceived bad stock, sending the whole market crashing? I do wonder if this situation of spooked/scared creators and spooked advertisers will get out of hand and cause YouTube real problems. Their lack of clear guidelines/transparency and being reactive rather than proactive may come back to bite them. This whole situation seems really mismanaged. If I was an investor, I would not be happy.
