YouTube is Removing Videos - Are You Affected?

I find all of this heartbreaking for those of you who've worked so hard to get to where you are (especially folks like KiddieToysReview who've helped so many other members here with their amazing contributions to this community) but that being said, I also find all this to be an extremely fascinating case study in the risks associated with Youtubing, whether the justifications for the decisions YouTube make are warranted or not.

For my particular case, it'll be interesting to see if the one or two poo and fart references in my videos will affect their monitization status. My TTD are all extremely family friendly so if I get busted, it's likely to be because of my manually entered closed captioning. Since my channel is small and any demonitization is inconsequential, I'm not going to change anything and see what happens.

Also, the implications of this sudden purge of supply makes me wonder what channels/videos are getting a big bump, or picking up the slack so to speak. Because demand obviously hasn't changed. Does socialblade show those kinds of metrics?

Everything's the same over here. You could set a heart rate monitor up to our channel, it's that consistent. 45,000/hour peaks, 20,000/hour slumps at night. For months and months. There's been a slight increase the last few days but I'd more so attribute that to Thanksgiving break and not the purges.

Maybe Sis Vs Bro. I don't even watch these channels and it's been popping up in my suggested vids all night

Well the weird thing is, for the last many months the machine has learnt billions of associations between the channels taken down and their tens of millions of subscribers and hundreds of millions of viewers. Now those associations are all jimmied up. It's going to have to relearn viewer behaviours. So kids will still be typing in "toy freaks" and "bad baby" (the older kids anyways), and will be clicking on the related vids that come up, and there are many of those. Then the associations and suggested will take them god know where. Probably some dark corners they would not have ventured otherwise.

This got me thinking. The ramifications for this issue has the potential to affect the whole of Youtube (not just the kids space). - YouTube generates a lot of revenue for google through the adwords/adsense program but the costs are also huge (due to storage space and bandwidth costs) The result is that YouTube is only just about profitable. The margins are very low. If the conclusion of this kids content issue is that Youtube need to manually review uploaded content to check it, then that will increase their costs exponentially - probably enough to tip the balance from profit to loss.

Add to that, the political pressure on all social media (facebook, YouTube and twitter) following on from the Russian interference in the US elections by using social media to influence voters - For anyone not following the story - Basically there is a chance that social media platforms will be legally responsible for the content that appears on their platforms (something that is not currently the case - it's not written into law) - If the law does change and/or public pressure increases forcing YouTube to manually review content, then YouTube would no longer be profitable in its current state. How long would that be sustainable for them? How long would shareholders allow that to happen? These are very fragile times for YouTube.
Google doesnt really make public the financials of youtube. Ive wondered if yt not being profitable is an accounting gimmick. Because they use adsense and adwords for the ad revenue. But asense and adwords are a separate line of business. Adsense and adwords would contribute directly to Googles financials and not youtube. Adsense and adwords are Google products not Youtube. Two separate companies. Maybe google uses accounting to make yt look like its not a profitable company in itself to avoid taxes. Some of these large corporations are pretty good at avoiding extra taxes. Im probably wrong though because i havent seen any articles yet to corroborate this idea. Would definitely suck for us if yt really is costing Google money and they pull the plug on the whole thing.

After seeing some the thumbnails and whatabout of the videos and channels deleted, they were already at the darkest corners. Now it will get only better and safer place. It was interesting year for YouTube and the YouTubers in general. More interesting than 2016, and before. Nobody can predict what will happen next, but these annoying videos will find another video hosts for sure. Probably PH will be their best place.

What's PH?
There was a comment above about Vlad planning to come back. I think most, if not all, these channels will be back under new names very very soon. You gotta remember, the $ earned at the 5M-9M sub levels are phenomenal, there is no way these people won't fight tooth and nail to find a way to get another channel up.

I think channels with obviously gross and disturbing content might accept their fate (see ToyFreaks), but as far as I saw Vlad channel didn`t belong in that category so yeah it will be interesting to see how they proceed for a comeback, especially considering that Youtube ToS doesn`t allow you to open another channel once you get banned (there might be easy workarounds for this though)

Looks like UK mega channel Toys AndMe is being purged (or they are removing videos manually). All their bad kids drive parents car videos are gone, and other bad baby stuff. I hope they pull through, they work really hard and have great content and a strong fan following.
It’ll be interesting to see what happens to Toys AndMe. They could signal what is to come for the rest of us. They have a mix of normal toy and kid videos and that bad baby freaky stuff too. I think they even did a collaboration with toy freaks. They definitely more than dabbled in quite a few bad baby toy freak style videos. They also have some legit kid and toy videos. But they are huge and i think on the same general popularity and reputationg level as ryan toysreview. So there was probably some discussion at yt if toys andme should be removed. i wonder if one metric yt uses to determine wether you should be removed is the % of offending bad baby freaky videos you have in your catalog before removing your channel. I wod be very scared if toys andme are taken down because they also have legit videos and theyve got a lot of cred. Maybe toys andme are analagous to Louis CK for their small part in elsagate.

The workaround is too easy - if the banned channel was in the guy's name, his wife opens an account. Since they are based in Russian, you could also use babushka or dedushka, or any of the daddas and tottyas. The dad's then just an employee of the channel. Too easy....
