Hows Can Descritions Be Improved To Rank Videos Higher?

Good advice. Many channels do not use description too much, just copy and past title. You got to 6K subs in 6 moth. How did you pick your tags? I am changing tags ( looking to the VidIQ ) and have very little improvement so far. I have an education channel with cartoons.

Tags are picked primarily in 80/20 fashion:
80% are longer tailed search terms, usually directly from the YT search bar (as long as they are relevant)
20% common kids channels tags: toys, kids, family fun, etc...
I do extensive research on other successful channels and have a large spreadsheet with tags per video for the large toy channels. If you compile something like this you can see patterns and get a feel for how successful channels tags their videos.

@Entityofsin
Do you have a rough number in mind of the amount of times a keyword could be put in a description before it would be keyword stuffing? :p[DOUBLEPOST=1468288435,1468288229][/DOUBLEPOST]

I think I will do the same as you then with the tags, doing a rough 80/20% sound good. :D I was also thinking of making up a spreadsheet document on my laptop listing my uploaded videos then in the colunms have the keywords, number of keywords in descriptions, etc.. :D

What I mean by keyword stuffing is people putting all of the tags they use into their video description plus additional ones. This is hopes of people actually seeing the video since YouTube scans the descriptions. You will most likely see people putting that crap at the bottom of their video descriptions.

Ah yeah, sometimes I see the start of the descriptions and they don't make sense, just words listed. :p I'm going to go with a simple rule so I don't forgot too much lol . :p 3 paragraphs, first 2 about the video and what is happening in the video, in these paragraphs ill make sure I have my main key words / phrases in them a few times. 3rd paragraph is just a little rant that goes "Please click like, subscribe, etc.." lol and then at the end, my Twitter, Facebook, Channel links. :p

I have about 100 videos uploaded tho so it will take sometime to work back through them all improving my descriptions lol. :p But ill get there in the end.. eventually.. :D

I don't think you need to count the number of kws in description - 100 videos that's a lot of time! Just incorporate your most important kws into natural sounding sentences. The best way I found to make it sound natural yet kw rich is describe what's happening in the video in 1-2 paragraphs.

I never try to do it like a spreadsheet. What programm do you use for it? and How often do you update tags on your videos to improve traffic?

@Gamayun - Kingsoft do a pretty good spreadsheet software. Its free to download and use. Also doesn't have options / features that say stuff like "you can use this option in the paid version". :p

I use Microsoft Excel. But you don't need spreadsheet, just do it in a Doc.
I generally don't update tags after the video is live. I have not experimented with changing tags, so don't know the effects it has. It is something I want to try on some videos that are not getting traffic, just to see what will happen, but I doubt much. Usually it's the case that those tags/topics are not popular and people are not searching for them. I doubt changing them would have much effect.
As an example we did a few puzzle videos near the start. Even though the tags were carefully chosen, the videos never got many views, simply because those topics are not popular. Other videos are popular straight away, as they hit popular search terms.

So I have wrote this little bit of information about budgies in the description of my latest budgie video...

The budgerigar, which is informally nicknamed the budgie, is also known as the Common Pet Parakeet and/or the Shell Parakeet. It is a small, long-tailed, seed-eating parrot and can live in captivity for as long as 8 years if cared for correctly. Wild, they can be found throughout the drier parts of Australia where the species has survived harsh inland conditions for the last five million years. The species was first recorded in 1805, and today is the third most popular pet in the world after the domesticated dog and cat.

I just got the information from wiki and stuff. :p Do you think I should add this paragraph into the descriptions of all my budgie videos? or Should the paragraph about budgies be unique to each budgie video? or at least the same info but re-written around?

just came from visiting your channel, SeanFace101, wondering why you do not post videos at regular intervals, you skip a couple weeks, then you post 4 in one week, why don't you use the schedule feature to give your subscribers a steady stream of content on which they can rely?

I changed tags in 12 videos and 2 got in to extra 200 playlists. They are popular before but dropped to 40 playlist each. After update 240 each. I did not update tags before too. Now I am thinking to do it every 2-3 month. I do not know how long it takes to get new tags effective in the YT search and can't find any information about it.[DOUBLEPOST=1468329968,1468329915][/DOUBLEPOST]
