I agree with Maevi, it really does depend on what you post. She was right about vlogs and gaming videos. However some gaming videos are much shorter. I dont think it depends that much on what you post, rather how long the video is. I think the intro should be proportionate. For example, if you have a 3 min funny montage -> no intro. 4-10 mins -> probably only a 4-5 second intro. Anything more than that should be about 6-8 seconds. If an intro gets too long, people lose interest and they only watch maybe a few minutes into the video. The very begining of a video, really needs to grab your audience, so if you are doing a montage, put the best clip at the end. Thats why if you have like a lets play, a lot of times the person who posted that video, will put like a 3-10 second clip of the best part of that video. It really grabs the audience and makes them want to watch the full extent of the video. So an intro should be proportionate to how long the video itself is. And anything more than 3 seconds should be able to grab you really well. This is extremely important if you decide to have an intro clipI would say it also depends on what kind of content you create. For vlog-type things I'd say no intro preferably, but if you have to have one just say hi or something. For gaming videos or generally videos that are 30+ minutes, you can have an intro that is about 15 seconds long. Although it really also depends on the overall quality and I suppose catchiness of your intro as well. If it's just you saying something or showing some footage of stuff, it better have one heck of a soundtrack to it.
