Gimp is really simple and easy and you can make some cool thumbnails and channel art.

Personally I'd say Gimp and paint.net are free alternatives that you can't go wrong with!

I do not think that Paint.NET is useful at all. I would go for GIMP if I had to choose here.
I'm curious, why don't you think Paint.NET is useful? I use it and have found it's easy to use and does everything I want it to.

I've seen this program years ago, so maybe it changed since then. But I'm afraid it doesn't offer as many options as other programs do.

I would recommend panzoid its a website so no installation needed and its very simple to use :)
