Your ideal length of time for a video?

It really depends on the viewer I find. I'm quite happy to sit through 10-15mins so long as I like the content. I don't really like short videos because they end too quickly or just don't hold much content. They tend to make me think "oh....its over already" it sometimes bugs me when there are loads more videos on the same topic or game or what ever so I have to click on the next video every time which could have just been added on to the previous video.

but that's just my preference. It will differ between audiences

Well for the videos I mainly make its 3-5 minutes for my commentary videos and 8-15 minutes for my gameplay videos :p

Since I make mostly gaming guides these days I try to be at max 3-4 minutes. Trying to be straight to the point and trying to explain what you need to do is easily done in that time :)

Personally, I like making videos that are under 10 minutes. I find that if I'm making a video and it runs beyond that, I haven't gotten my point across well.

Unless the video is very engaging, as a watcher, I only tend to be interested in videos that are 2-8 minutes or so, especially if they're from people just talking to the camera. I find that people don't really edit as much as they should out of their videos.

Starting from now, I decided to apply a rule: no more than 7 minutes per video, unless it's completely neccesary, example: if I want to upload a full game, etc. I make gaming videos, and I think if I'm doing a funny moments/montage, more than that would be exhausting for the audience. Also, 7 is my fave number.

This is generally the max amount of time that I like to watch other people's videos as well.

Youtube's algorithms favor longer videos and higher quantities which is why gaming channels do pretty well. I make animation videos and I originally didn't take length in to account but now I try to keep my videos 7 minutes or less. Usually with tiny channels people don't really care so shorter videos are easier for them to digest. Don't want them clicking off the video too early.

I think a good length is around 4-6 minutes but it all depends on what kind of video you're making. I believe the more watch time on a video, the more likely it will show up in searches, so shorter videos might have a harder time getting noticed.

The idea that a video should be 2-3 minutes comes from people like me who have small attention spans, which is most people. Informational or tutorial videos are okay to be longer, but the general rule is the shorter the better. Don't say something in 10 minutes when you can do in 5.
