Your ideal length of time for a video?

Hey everyone.

I was wondering what your preferred time length for each video would be? Not just for content that you create but also videos that you consume?

We are currently pushing about 6-8 minutes based on our script length which I feel is OK for the information we are trying to convey. Not sure whether or not to aim to increase or decrease this.

So what do you think?

I prefer the shorter clips unless there is a story that progresses. Things like David Firth videos or RackaRacka videos have a story flow to them so I can actually sit through them to the end. Most of the time I just want to see the good part like videos of people getting hurt doing stupid things or items being crushed so I'll skip through the intros until I reach the part I came to watch

for new youtubers the ideal length of a video should be about 2 minutes

I don't know where this idea came from? Data?

Length depends on content and what you are showing/doing - how long is a piece of string?

However, don't drag on something that can be done in less time. That will soon switch off viewers.

People like it short, sharp and shiny from my experience and feed back.

Up to 10 minutes is fine in that regard.

I have heard that saying from a lot of people and I'm not sure if it is just me but my average view duration is around 2 minutes.

I suppose it depends on the content and what you are trying to communicate. I personally prefer longer videos over shorter ones.

You can insert multiple ads ...I'm not gonna lie I used to judge people for doing this but after doing it myself I can see why

For my videos, I tend to keep them a short as possible - to keep them to the point, snappy and to make sure they don't drag on too much.
I usually try to keep my videos between 5 - 10 minutes but it really does depend on the video and what I am making.
