I do really like Sony Vegas, but honestly, whether it be Vegas, After Effects, etc, you'll never really go wrong.
Oh, and Vegas Movie Studio (the lower end version of Vegas I think?) isn't bad either, but if you do really professional-type videos, I remember discovering there are certain limitiations to things like resolution, etc. If I remember correctly.
All in all, any mainstream editor will do fine, except Live Movie Maker. It sucks, and I would never use it.
Also, it's different and doesn't use a "timeline" layout like Vegas, After Effects, etc but you can try "Lightworks". It's basically a fully-featured open-source video editor. Very powerful, but there's a bit of a learning curve to the way they have it laid out. Still, it can pretty much do most anything the others can, and it's totally free. You just need to sign up with a free account and you're done. Check it out![DOUBLEPOST=1445744200,1445744111][/DOUBLEPOST]
Ha, you beat me to it! Same, it felt complicated, but it's fully featured as far as I know... I believe they did used to have a "timeline" like in the other editors, but they did away with that after beta?
Still, if someone puts a little time into learning it, I bet they can produce really good videos with it, and it may even be faster and simpler than Vegas after you've learned it. Or so I've heard.
