I think it really depends on how you speak. If you are naturally good at improvising, you could just wing it and see what happens. If you can't think and talk at the same time, obviously write a full script. Most people are in the middle. I would recommend writing a lose script and then just fill in yourself. Remember, you can always do more than one recording.

We write complete scripts and really don't deviate too much from it, but we seem to work better that way

Within reason you can pretty much do anything you put your mind to, the key to being efficient is being self aware and having a bit of intelligence about you :)
