I think a lot of Melissa Hunter and she is an excellent representative for the kids space on Youtube; however I disagree with her slightly on this. COPPA is an outdated law, but it needs to be updated in a way that is further restrictive considering today's technology. I can assure you that hardly anyone outside of those that are making money on this are interested in relaxing the law protecting kids. In fact, Congress probably agrees more on this than any other single issue out there. Youtube views are finite for the most part. Most kids will not search for a channel and they will simply rely on the recommendations. As revenue plummets, channels will drop; however viewers will stay on the platform. This will result in more views for those that stay on the platform. You can still build a brand on Youtube that has value through sponsored ads and products. Yes, the foreign channels will be toast. Some channels may get hit on search and discovery, but kids are going to find kid videos. And as Melissa Hunter put it, the Russian Mafia will finally stop making kid videos. Good riddance!
