Massive drop in views on kid channels

Could this be an attempt to be more like network television? Where on TV you can have shows for children funded by commercials. Because isn’t that what you would try to do if you still want to have it all. I think the only difference between youtube and TV is the tracking and personalized commercials. Maybe take the intelligence out of Youtube and dumb it down so they capitalize on childrens content just like television? 100 million isnt nearly enough to replace all the kids channels. Especially all the big ones. It would be shocking if they decided to kill off cocomelon and ryantoysreview. Perhaps they are trying to convert those channels into television style advertising.
100 mil is noothing. i think kid content generates youtube 1 billion a year

I talked to some people who did some tests so with personalized ads turned off you barely have any prerolls. So they think the loss will be 50-80% and not 10% like one article said

"We are changing how we treat data for children’s content on YouTube. Starting in about four months, we will treat data from anyone watching children’s content on YouTube as coming from a child, regardless of the age of the user. "

I can imagine what the revenue in January will be

"We will also stop serving personalized ads on this content entirely, and some features will no longer be available on this type of content, like comments and notifications "

Wow. And subscribers won't know about new videos.

there will be an a dip. but i am pretty sure toy companies, cereal and gaming companies will adjust their ad settings for these changes. When you advertise on google ads you can choose the video you want to advertise on, the channel, keywords (search), audience (this is personalized), demographics (personalized), and topics. So there are ways for toy/gaming companies and cereal companies to target general info like categories, search keywords, and they can still target fgteev ryantoysreview cocomelon etc.

from a big youtube producer. some people are interpreting youtube's post to be about choosing creators for the kid space with the 100 million fund.

So what this means is, after they pay Ryan ToysReview, it leaves about $10 for the rest of the community.

What I don't understand, if a channel is labeled as kid friendly what is the issue with playing kid friendly ads on it. Your not collecting data on the viewer but you would be collecting the data on the content. So where exactly does the issue come in?

I also don't understand why the all out attack on kids channels. It is the channels not geared strictly towards kids that are way more dangerous to kids, young teens and even young adults. Seems like kid channels have become a scape goat for YouTube so they don't have to deal with the real content issues you see from their big YouTubers.

Hi guys, kids content creator here. Created an anonymous account because of this thread.

My channel is fairly large. We get around a million views a day, a little under a 750,000 subscribers. We've been making content for several years now.

Until all this occurred we had no idea how many of our views were from the YouTube Kids app. I just assumed it was none or close to it (who uses that app?), so we checked. Here are some metrics from the last few weeks:

YouTube (not kids): 45 million watch time minutes
YouTube Kids app: 56 million watch time minutes

I was shocked. I have no idea when this switch occurred -- I just assumed everyone was hitting our content via the regular YouTube app.

I just wanted to add to this thread for more data points. Yes, we're alarmed for the future. Losing personalized ads will be big. As a test, I've turned off personalized ads and will leave them off for the following 2 days (as YouTube analytics are always 2 days behind). I'll report back with what sort of loss we received (although, it seems likely that the amount lost will be different based on each individual channel)

Random questions:
- Have they always shown personalized ads on YouTube Kids app? Or have they long been removed?
- (I anticipate this question will be a big one) How do they draw the line? What's kids content versus family friendly content? What about gaming which are enjoyed by kids and adults alike?

$100 Million is not much money, when Ryan makes $20million a year. Not much left over.

Im confused by something: "Does no personalised adds mean no adds will appear on kids videos?" Also is this just USA focussed?
