Massive drop in views on kid channels

One thing I find very interesting is that I have not had a video make the kids app in over three months. We have several videos in the kids app from 2017 and 2018 that get lots of views, but Youtube won't add any new videos from our channel into the kids app. I checked several huge kids channels and they have limited videos available in the kids app. I could not find any new videos from big channels in the kids app. Obviously this is a big clue that something is being worked on with the kids app.

Looking at the past 30 days here are the top kid channels by views (I excluded some channels that had more views, but had their channels removed).
1 Cocomelon - Nursery Rhymes 2,631,237,932
2 Like Nastya Vlog 1,282,468,433

3 Vlad and Nikita 857,750,125

4 ✿ Kids Diana Show 855,400,767

5 Toys and Colors 705,830,973

6 Ryan ToysReview 605,765,849

7 Stacy Toys 530,279,969

8 Johny FamilyShow 425,823,044

9 Family GamesTV 424,815,830
10 Super Simple Songs - Kids Songs 377,036,996

All of these channels with the exception of Cocomelon and Ryan ToysReview are basically the same style all with the same music and sound effects. All aimed at preschool children.

I have over 2500 videos which could be in the kids app, and at one point, I had over 660 according to youtube creator support, but in January 2018 , 90% were removed, and as of July this year I have zero kids videos in the kids app, although they meet the suitability qualifications 100% . I have no clue what they are doing or if they know what they a doing , or going to do. At this point, I don;t know if they care about us, it are they too focused on the Will Smith channels . Someday they will hopefully default or revamp the algorithm and let it go back to what it was before they got greedy, and choosing winners and losers... this is sad. My top video today is getting 61VPH...views per hour, thats the top one of 2852 videos I remember in 2014 on the weekend, I was getting 40,000 views per hour, and today my total vph is 700 as we speak. The successive algo changes drew my viewers to other videos, which took me years to build up an audience, and suddenly youtube decides to send them to other channels. Thanks. ( end of rant )

I think YouTube is getting stricter with the usage of copyrighted characters. So most of the traffic goes to the right holders

Posts such as "Channel X has had an increase in views" and "Channel Y has had a decrease in views" are pretty pointless. Are we really going to make a post every time a channel's views go up / go down? That is how Youtube works. That is how YouTube has always worked and YES view counts change very quickly even when there is no bug or no algorithm change. When a channel blows up, it will double its views several times within a few days / weeks and other channels will have a drop in views. That is normal behaviour for YouTube.

As I mentioned very early in this thread, view counts are zero sum. If channel A is getting 1000 more views per day, then channels B-Z will be getting 1000 fewer views per day. YouTube doesn't care who is getting / not getting the views because the total is the same.

Honestly, trying to reverse engineer the algorithm will drive you crazy. A sudden increase / decrease in views could be due to any of the following:

- Something you did yesterday.
-Something you did last week.
-Something you did last month.
-Something you did 6 months ago.
- Something one of your competitors did yesterday.
-Something one of your competitors did last week.
-Something one of your competitors did last month.
-Something one of your competitors did 6 months ago.
- Something YouTube changed did yesterday.
-Something YouTube changed last week.
-Something YouTube changed last month.
-Something YouTube changed 6 months ago.
etc etc ad infinitum..........

or it could be a simple reshuffle of the suggested videos based on no new changes. The existing (unchanged) algorithm is simply being applied to new data (new videos) - Videos that are performing better (in terms of CTR and view time) will replace older videos with worse CTR and view time.

If channel "A" is averaging 50K views a day ( for example) , and showing steady growth from the beginning,...say the channel is 2 year old and has a nice following, with new subs daily with continued growth, this is what you like to see , your new channel making videos , with lots of regular viewers following your updates and watching your videos , which often attracts new viewers as well. Then you wake up one day and see your daily views has dropped to 10K ...where did the other 40K viewers go ? Did 40K of your fans simply decide one day NOT to watch your videos ? ( not likely ) More likely is that something changed , and it wasn't as simple as a competitor uploaded a new video, as this should only move your video down one notch in the suggested pane, not make it disappear. I have seen videos go from 800 views per hour to ZERO in a minute..literally stopped. So did they " shuffle " the suggested videos ? Why the hell would they do that, as a creator we worked hard to make videos and get recommended and suggested and maintain our growth ... why rob us to help a new channel just because it is watched a second longer ..., let them beat their way to the top like we all do. The existing ( so-called unchanged ) algorithm is changed hundreds of times a year by their own admission. It isn't fair to the creators who worked hard to build their channel from nothing and then have it all taken away, at the benefit of newer channels . It's despicable. As far as watch time, goes, they say it is am important metrix, yet some of my videos with the highest watch time get the least views and vise versa. I call bull on the watch time thing, likely another red herring. The length is irrelevant. they say over 10 minutes ...yeah right.

It’s not that 40k decided not to watch you. They just don’t know about you and through YouTube recommendations they find out about you. Next day out those 40k 300 became your regular watchers the rest will never come back to you. Since the most traffic comes from suggested only a fraction of it are your loyal audience. Plus kids grow up and move on so you have to capture a new audience. It’s never ending game. For Disney it’s easy their parents grew up with Disney and they tell their children etc.
if 95% of our traffic were people specifically who searched for our videos and only 5% YouTube recommended then YouTube wouldn’t have such a great authority on our channels.

I mean 40K overnight...not a gradual drift down as would be expected, and would be slightly offset by continuous new evergreen material to attract new subs as the original ones grow older and disinterested. This is how it was supposed to be and why I kept at it for years trying to offset the drop in viewers as the internet grew and expanded I should have always attracted new viewers and new subs,,,then you wake up and half your audience is gone..poof...do you get it now ?

A must watch documentary. CBS did an amazing job. It honestly has me thinking to quit it all. Listening to some of these families has me embarrassed to even consider that I might have something in common with them. You will see humans inflicted with greed, pompous stupidity, extreme narcissism, exploitation, and a host of other major personality flaws. Watching this has made me extremely motivated to push for legislation to protect the kids even more. Kyler and Mad quote, "This job pays so much money like we don't know how we got so lucky, we spend one hour on a video and make more money that people make in a year." They claim just last month they had 3 or 4 brand deals for $150,000. The McLure Family from Youtube said, "we average $11,000 a month, Youtube is a kids game, it is a kids platform, it is mostly 12 year olds 8 year olds 6 year olds binging on these videos so if you are binging on a video it increases the watch time of that channel we make more money." I think as a society we really have to realize we are better than this.

they just don’t give away much of a suggested traffic. Maybe AI Learns the complexity of content and can tell which videos it takes 10 min to make and which it takes a month or two. Also AI does pay attention to how many shots in your video. This is a very important trigger. It knows if it is a complex animation or just an unboxing shot at one angle without putting in any editing work.
