Goodbye Annotations

This hurts badly. I may not have any content up yet on my channel, but I was planning several videos (with many more ideas in mind) that rely solely on Annotations. Even if links can be put in Cards, that won't work for me. The whole idea was to have 'buttons' in different places on the video. My videos were going to be like games. If there is a door on the screen for example, you could click on it, taking you to a video (or a timestamp in the current video) where it shows you entering the room. I had a lot of such content in mind. I was even considering doing some of these projects for businesses, that yet again would rely on Annotations specifically.

I'm not sure why they couldn't have just improved Annotations. Were there limitations to what they could do with them? People say that they found Annotations annoying. This could be due to how the video creator utilized them. At the same time, others have used them to great effect. When used right, they aren't annoying, but rather add value to the video. It's not Youtube's job to make sure people's videos are liked. The responsibility of making quality content falls on the owner of the video.

You can have Cards, End Screens, and Annotations at the same time. Annotations didn't have to be removed in order for the other features to work. Until there is an adequete replacement for Annotations, removing them just forces content creators to change. It may not work out well for everyone.

I asked this question a few pages back in this thread, but didn't get an answer. Can someone please let me know if I will be able to remove any existing annotations after Youtube disables the feature? I know existing annotations will remain, but won't be editable, but I can't find any info on if they will be removable or not.

I think they would want to force you to use cards instead, which would mean the annotations would need to be deactivated somehow. I'm only speculating -- I don't think anyone knows for sure what's going to happen. ^^ I would imagine you would be able to remove them, but once they are removed, there probably won't be an undo button to bring them back... =/
