Does taking a long break kill your channel?

I took a couple of months off because I had to get some school stuff figured out and I actually gained quite a few subscribers! It's pretty much a hit or a miss but typically you just might plateau and not have any gain or loss, which is good in a way.

For the most part, I think it's more detrimental than anything. Not because you necessarily lose an audience, but because creators tend to work best (from what I've seen) with regular participation in the things they're creating and one break leads to another, which eventually leads to abandoning the things you're doing.

Personally, yes. I struggled on my old channel to do anything with over 100 subscribers and the videos would be up for months and get 30 views. Because they were most likely nolonger insterested in me or went inactive completely.

I've taken time off a few times on my channel, I've never had a huge amount of subs/views but after each break my views dropped by a little, and my subscriptions didn't grow quite as fast as before, but it always built itself back up again
the problem is when you have a slightly larger audience (lets say, 1,200 people) a lot of those people will get bored of waiting and either unsubscribe or just forget about your channel altogether, and maybe have no interest in the content you're making now.
I think it depends on the person, really, and the type of content you're making too

(I think I took 2, each at different times on different years and about 1-2 months each)

Hey everyone,
Just wanted to know from anyone's experiences, does taking a long break (3-4 months) kill your channel (people unsubbing, youtube analytics penalise your vids/channel) ?
Has anyone found it hard to start up again?

I run a freediving channel -each video produced requires perfect water/weather conditions. I'm thinking of taking a 3 month break as summer is approaching. I don't really do any freediving during the summer months (murky water) and i'll be travelling as well.

I just took like, a 9 month break? And dropped my first video since then this morning, so I'll let you know how things go, but I did lose a subscriber or two and my video views went COMPLETELY stagnant after a few months (literally >2 views a day)

I didn't upload for 9 months and it practically killed my channel. Was getting 50-60 views per vid but then getting above 5 was an achievement. Now averaging about 25 which is good, but nowhere near what it was. Also looks very suspect having 140 subs but only getting 20 views per video!

However I've seen some people do it and it's had a positive effect on their channel. In my case, I believe my genre died out during the time I was away.

From what I've experienced with my 3 month break I did lose a lot Engagement in my channel with video's meaning less views and comments than before when I was consistent so I'm definitely tryna stick with the consistant thang , didnt lose much subscribers but engagement to me has more value than my sub count cause it shows who's really watching your video's and enjoying them
