Does " Luck " has anything to do with making a channel successful?

I completely agree with Lightsen and also believe there is an element of luck, no one fully understands the YouTube algorithm to get every video suggested over and over with a brand new channel, there are things you can try to get suggested but nothing guarantees it so yeah I believe there is luck to it and getting things just right for it to pick up your video at the right time.

I believe luck plays a big part in it. I've heard some big Youtubers say themselves they got big because they got lucky. It's about being at the right place at the right time, if people like you enough, and who you know. Tubers should still aim to put out high quality videos, I'm just saying even some tubers who put out awesome videos do not get as far as others who may put out similar content. Even some successful tubers had mediocre videos when they started but people were still willing to watch their stuff. I think people were more forgiving when Youtube was new. Nowadays, you have to be super lucky because people have higher expectations and Youtube is an over-saturated site.

For me, luck is when opportunity meets preparation (as Gary Vaynerchuk says). They had the opportunity given by YouTube, but they were ready to make it count. They were consistent and had something unique. Not everyone will see and take the chance to get more.

I don't believe in luck, life is not a lottery. You have to create your own chances. That's what succesful people do, everyone who is not succesful waits for luck to help them. So create your own chances, talk to some big youtubers and ask if they want to check our your channel. Do the right promotion. And have fun!

Have a beautiful day!

Back in 2011 I had those stupid short Minecraft videos which got over 50,000 views.

Unfortunately that channel got deleted.

Minecraft was a pretty big thing back then and I just think I was lucky that my videos appeared in suggestions of popular videos lol

Luck was more important 3-4 years ago when YouTube was still young.
Now you need:

good content + good SEO or
mediocre content + very "creative" SEO
Well, I guess you could say making unique content....
Well yeah, SEO is important but when it comes to placing first in the search results, small youtubers will be covered up by bigger youtubers because of the watch time and subs they have.
I once searched for a game and in the first page was pewdiepie's video, and that video has no relationship with the game I wanna watch, SEO might give you a little boost to your video search results. But it doesn't have any meaning if you don't get the watch time and interactions.

I believe that luck can play into the success of a channel, but that ultimately if you're putting out good content and putting it in front of people who want to see that content, you will be successful either way. Luck might have your video reach the right person who features it on a related blog and expedite that success, but that kind of luck is not a prerequisite for success. Good content, however, is a prerequisite for success.

Oh....you have a good point there...

Yes, luck has something to do with the growth of your channel. You can't control luck, but you can control your exposure to luck. Try to the things your best, stay open for new initiatives, stay active, so you're likelier to get caught by luck!
