Having used both Sony Vegas Pro (10 & 13) as well as Adobe Premier Pro - this is my own personal conclusion.
Sony Vegas is the better software for starting out on. Its tools are easier to use and understand. For people just starting out in Video Editing, I would suggest they use Sony Vegas. For YouTubers, Sony Vegas is fine - it is simple and easy to use.
For more professional video editing - Adobe. Simply due to the fact Adobe's tools are more in depth, offer more detail and work in sync with Adobe After Effects for even more editing depth and detail. Adobe tools on both platforms offer more control and better tweaking of the video footage to get the desired end result. Colour grading with Adobe is almost always more in depth and yields a better result than that of Sony Vegas. (at the moment)
