2015 CPM/post-holiday warning

November, December were so great, channel is getting more views than ever, it's pitty that all this happened few months before January and now have to live through all this drought. I wonder how does this period of time impacts those who are living off YouTube.

man i had only $10 for the past few days...

That means that you have room to grow. Look for new content to present as well.

I also have much longer videos with mid-roll advertisements incorporated.. My videos that are only a few minutes long only make peanuts so it's nothing that special at the end of the day.

Excellent point! Mid-rolls definitely boost the CPM. I do have a couple types of presentations whereby I incorporate mid-rolls but most of them do not.[DOUBLEPOST=1420392566,1420392481][/DOUBLEPOST]

YouTubers who earn their living from Adsense revenue should be prepared for the highs and lows. They can also add revenue sources such as merchandise, fan funding, and paid videos.

I'm having record high page views. I passed 500K views two days in a row. Butt...

Clicks down 30%
CTR down 50%
RPM down 60%
Earnings down 50%

Those are rough estimates. I'm still earning 3X what I was earning from the Post Office.

I think we hit bottom on January 1st, because we bounced up finally on January 2nd (not much, but better than going down more!)
So within a 9 day period the decline from highest daily revenue point (12/23/14) to lowest (1/01/15) was nearly 63%! Oh, how the mighty have fallen.[DOUBLEPOST=1420398586,1420398434][/DOUBLEPOST]

We're having record high page views too! Our first day ever over 700k total views on January 2nd! Hopefully those views keep on coming when RPM eventually goes back up.

Yeah, my RPM for January 1st and January 2nd is about 30% lower than my usual annual average and about 40% lower than my December 2014 average.

In a way, it's good that we don't receive the actual income until the end of the following month. By the time, I receive the higher-than-usual $$ from December, I will have already seen that the January earnings are significantly lower and that I'll need to put some of those December earnings under my mattress lol.

It's almost like YouTube is trying to make up for our bad RPMs by crankin' view counts, ha ha! We're having huge view days too so that sounds pretty universal. We're well into the 1.1 - 1.2 million daily view range, but I suspect that will take a hit when most kids get back to school tomorrow. But our RPM and revenue is down 60%+, more like 2/3 down, but like Mark said, with strong views and knowing this is the worst of the worst times, the revenue is still enough to keep looking for small tropical islands to purchase! :) I was looking at last year's RPM and it was close to double what ours is now, I'm guessing with time and more monetized channels, it's diluting the rates in a progressive way because our rates are way down from last year. But who knows, maybe that's because we've grown in views from Asian and S. American countries too where the rates are naturally way lower. But even with way lower rates compared to last year, our revenue is much higher due to much higher views than last January. This is where a lot of the branding deals we're working on will help in these off-months. Keep on crankin', this is still the funnest and most lucrative way to create a dream living!

I think it's advertisers not having a lot of ad $ to spend after xmas. I don't notice less views or anything, but I prepared for making less $ for the next few months. People are still watching video. However my audience is a bit older, so maybe kids going back to school won't really affect it much.
