Why you should NEVER do "sub for sub"

Sub4Sub is pretty pointless if you're hoping to use it to gain any traction for your channel.

BUT I have friends who are musicians and have done it to give gig promoters they have a bigger following than they do. It's misleading but the London gig circuit is cruel and it did help them get a head start on playing live... But it has no actual use for Youtube.

Definetaly true, I used Sub4Sub on my old account and what it did to my account is why I've just made a new one. Good advice!

That's a really good point. I'll make sure not to do this when trying to get subscribers. After all, there really is no point in getting subscribers that don't even watch your videos.

that's really true, people would just unsubscribe also at any time, If he already mentioned it in the script, sorry. I didnt really read all of it. And thanks for the advice. I really appreciate it.

I can definitely understand the urge to sub4sub. When you start out any exposure seems like good exposure. However all you get is subscribers who don't engage with your work. Our subscriber number is small, very small. I still class us as starting out, and it's been a rocky start. However, we enjoying the actual journey of vlogging rather than the potential pay-off. Lia and I have had some great adventures recently, and most of them now on the internet for us to look back on forever. The idea that, in half a century's time, I could log on and show my grandchildren our trip to Paris, or our cruise, or just us dicking about in Brighton, gives me a much better feeling than any statistic ever could.

I have always wondered if this works or not. It never seemed to add up. Otherwise everyone would have a million subs and youtube would be s**t.

You forgot to mention, most people tend to start making videos in hopes of earning a little extra income. (though I do it because I enjoy it and love acting/entertaining people). If extra income is your goal, sub for sub is a really bad idea because subs don't really mean anything. The video views are what really counts, which is why you want genuine loyal subs.

The YouTube algorithm automatically sweeps out inactive subscribers, so that wouldn't do you any good in the long run. I don't really like getting my feed stuffed full of one thousand people's videos. Even if you unsubscribed they will unsubscribe back, and that can put on a huge debt.

YouTube frowns on sub4sub. They even ban the use of the word. It just isn't going to work.

I don't even know WHY people would do sub4sub. I've seen so many channels where I saw the sub count and went "oh wow this person's popular," then clicked on a video and there were like... 20 views. Everything I've seen indicates that view time and retention is what matters most, not the number on your "About" page.

Plus it just feels hollow. 100 dedicated viewers are better than 10,000 people who never watch.
