The small stay small, the big get bigger.

A commentary/let's play channel like yours, definately needs a gateway video or two. For example you upload good content, in good quality both audio and video, however it doesn't get that many views.

Try thinking of something, and if you come up with a funny 2-3 minute video related to your channel upload that booty ;) then use analytics to see where the views are coming from, and optimize the video/your content based on that.
I checked that analytics stuff and I was suprised to find most of the views come direct from youtube, where as I thought they would come from me posting them on twitter. I found that odd considering I'm nowhere near first page on the search/results page lol.

At the moment, I'm looking to get an intro and I'm going to try some shoter vids (although I'm not sure what content to include).

Thanks for the feedback! I'll give it a try :D

When it's directly from Youtube, that means it's not subscriber feeds or recommended, it means that someone searched for something and found this. They were most likely looking for something about this game, and happened to come across your video.

This btw means your channel is in stage of growth 1,5
You don't have to promote it, but it's SUPER slow and inconsistent.[DOUBLEPOST=1367330225,1367330117][/DOUBLEPOST]
Okay, thanks! Actually, I've started commentating my gameplay recently for my BioShock and TR playthrough. :) Thanks for helping me out!
I didn't notice :D if I can give one last advice, it would be to turn your microphone's audio up, and the games audio down. This way your voice would be more clear, and not overrun by the game ;)

Yeppp! One of my subscribers told me this too, hehe. I suppose long intros should only be done once I've built up a more successful channel?

Unless it's a new intro incorporating something entertaining, I would suggest staying away from intros at all if possible. Theres a big difference between an intro saying your name and stuff like that (the wrong kind of intro) and a little cutout of the video with music or something similar (which is showing people what they're gonna be watching)

Ahh, okay. So for me, it'd be better to do the latter?

Well, yes definately in most cases. If you're doing a Let's play, I suggest having no intro at all.

However with standalone videos, it's definately an advantage since it's gonna upper your viewer retention, and it also just sets your audience in the right mood.
I hate to use my own videos as example since it's like ******* out your channel, however in my "full ad" series, I always have a short intro with some pictures and awful music and possibly a funny moment, and also a title screen to show everyone what kind of video this is.

I hope my answer helps ;)

how do you know when you have a good gateway, just when you go semi viral ?
Well first of all people gotta like it, if they don't like what they're watching it's never gonna be good. And when it's going semi-viral and getting views on it's own you know you have a gateway video, you can check Analytics to see the audience retention.

Keep in mind that view to subscribe ratio is in Youtube's algorythm for showing videos as recommended, and also like/dislikes ratio, even view/comment ratio and favorite's are taking into account.

Woow thanks for the advice, I will let my channel grow naturally, meanwhile I will devise a plan to wow. :) No but, thank you so much.
