I agree something needed to be done, but this is a huge step in the wrong direction. For some reason everyone thinks that this will magically get rid of all of the crap channels. This is not deleting anything, only demonetizing crap channels, and click bait, which most of the click baits are probably above the threshold,, and will be able to go on about normal day of wasting peoples time.

The problem that this creates is you will see an influx of crap, why? Simple it only takes one video to get near this, so if they don't meet the standards they will just keep spamming videos in hoping they go viral. or meet the standards. They should start by deleting old channels that haven't uploaded in certain amount of time, proven to be click bait, or uploading things they shouldn't, but that would mean some of the biggest trolls, I mean money makers. That's just my opinion though.

Was listening to a podcast, and the one guy brought up a good point. Think of it like the NFL. YouTube just told the world they are no longer having a draft meaning, the young new channel that might of been an awesome big channel will NEVER happen now. Whoever is in the cool club, is all you will have from here on out unless they change something.

Thought it was a good point to share.

It's actually a good move from YouTube to weed out the people who actually create good content versus people who just abuse the system. YouTube wasn't left with much choice and although it does hurt smaller creators (we're always getting ****** over), it's probably better for the community as a whole.

It’s kinda bad! That’s 240,000 minutes of watch time - average of 20,000 minutes per month..
3 of my older (obviously not very popular) channels were dumped.. But i still think it’s the right move.
Let me rephrase that. It's not bad for people with active subs and an engaged fan base, something you should have if you want to make revenue off of your channel. Some could easily bot subs and make it through that 1,000 sub threshold, but the time threshold is a decent way of checking to see if your viewers are active or really enjoying your content. You should have one of those to even consider monetizing videos (again, that's just my uninformed opinion). Then again, with certain forms of content that can be tough. For example, animators. Sadly they've been ****** for a while in the YT landscape. Other than that, I can think of maybe... JonTron esc content that takes a while to make. So don't get me wrong, it can be bad, but it isn't really that bad for a majority of content creators. There's no way to make a perfect system.

It sucks for me because I’m at about 800 and to need just 200 more just to stay monetized is pretty crazy. I feel bad about it because it probably will demotivate a lot of people from making videos anymore both the crap channels and some really good channels that nobody knows about. I feel like smaller Youtubers have more potential to put out great content, and maybe especially now since a lot of people won’t start out easily monetized. With money out of the picture maybe people will just go back to uploading for the hell of it and if it blows up good if it doesn’t oh well. But yeah.. just for people who are so close to 1000 it kinda blows lol. But I say don’t let this stop you from uploading regardless of what happens.

To be perfectly honest, I'm not really against this. I think that it discourages those who do YT specifically for monetary gain. I think the hurdle of 1k is a biiiiiit much, but not a horrible idea. 500 would be a bit more reasonable imo. That's just me though, I would like to hear what others think.

Note: There is some other view limitation, but I don't remember that tbh. If you have issues with that please explain what it is for my dumb a** lol.
These people that do it purely for monetary gain will not find trouble to reach the new thresholds (ref. ElsaGate). They will just upload more automated videos on one channel, instead on several. These news YPP requirements are just a slap on the small creators, hobbyists and people who were thinking that keeping separate niches in separate channels was a good idea (silly me). Now I just need to pick more popular topics for my gaming channel, if I want to keep it in the YPP, or just ditch it and focus on my main channel, i.e. no more fun in gaming (my wife is happy about this btw).

"Totally support these new rules. There are so many low quality channels with fake views and subscribers. If you want to earn money, spend some time on creating quality stuff. I didn't plan to monetize my channel, this was created for fun and pleasure."

Really? Hundreds if not thousands of people working their channels, working their tails off, some better than others, and this is your comment?

Awesome, congrats on being that guy. Insert eyeroll emoji.

Get a real job to pay your bills. 20-30$ even 100$/month is nothing if it's your goal. I quit and sell one project when my income from it was 200$. To earn such money on youtube you should have more than these small new limits. Create for fun, your real watchers and for learning new things. Good luck!
