Twitter has been by and far my biggest resource for new subscribers and views. You'd never think, but... yeah.

Reddit is the worst for me. Not because of audience-wise, but because it seems really hard to self-promote ANYTHING on there...

When you first started posting on twitter did you have any kind of following or was it brand new with the channel? If you didn't have a following how did you go about getting the attention of users? (hashtags, tagging people, etc.)

I liberally followed people I liked and thought would be responsive. They followed me back. You tell them to look at your channel, if they like it, they subscribe. Keeping conversation with them also helps a lot, tho several of them ignore me after a couple days :( Met a couple of good friends on there tho! :D

I did have a small following from a previous Youtube channel, Casual Mode, and from name recognition in a couple forums I used to go to.

Oooooh okay see I've been looking for new ways to promote my channel, i'm currently using reddit which sometimes works and sometimes doesnt kinda hit or miss, but I've been considering using twitter and facebook but have no idea on how to go about doing that with no following. I have personal accounts but don't really want to tie those in with youtube.

How do you promote on Reddit anyway? I heard Self-promotion is a no-no in all the main forums... (which btw is stupid because then everyone just puts up the big name stuff).

Wait does it say that on reddit or youtube? As far as promotion on reddit, I've found some self-promoting threads where content creators can go to post their videos to get exposure. Although not the best way of promoting, you rarely get actual viewers scrolling through the threads compared to the users who go to post and leave, it's still something and have had a few people actually subscribe for the content.

AFAIK, it depends on the forum. But most main ones, yeah. /r/pokemon is willing to let me promote if I stay active on there by September 4th, but most don't even allow it period.

I did hear the subreddits are a little more lenient.

Yeah definitely would stray away from the main one's unless you have permission. But yeah one of the subreddits I post to is Newtubers

Unless you're appealing to a specific niche audience, avoid Reddit. I posted a few of my videos in the NewTuber's subreddit (separated by a few weeks each, not all at once) and they either went unrecognised or downvoted. You'd be lucky to get more than 10 views from Reddit. Twitter and Facebook are great for advertising videos though. Use hashtags and you're sweet.
