YouTube has Changed.. Sadly

Gaming has actually allowed YouTube to grow as big as it is now. I had no interest in YouTube before let's plays and gaming videos became a thing (probably still wouldn't in the slightest bit) and it eventually lead me to finding some non-gaming channels I liked watching as well, I didn't even know what a Vlog was and thought it sounded like the stupidest thing I had ever heard until I got hooked into them. Take it away and I'm pretty sure people like you will just be complaining about the cat & dog videos (& now days vine compilations) that dominate it instead. If your "animations/short films/skits/sketches etc..." aren't showing up in the search fields, you need to work on your SEO. And if people aren't searching for that kind of content well reality check: it's because they don't like it, if they don't like it, they won't search for it, it's really simple logic. It's like me saying Minecraft killed my WhateverGameTitle vids because people searched for Minecraft instead of my vids, how DARE THEY! But the bigger the YouTube community, the higher the chances of other genres of channels being found. This is an opportunity for the other genres to jump on, and many of them have, even companies like Disney have jumped in on YouTube, comedy talk shows like Jimmy Kimmel, Conan O Brien and that other guy (I forget his name but he looks like the dude from How I Met Your Mother) all have YouTube channels that are a heavy focus for them or who ever runs them, all of which are VERY successful non-gaming channels.

As for the original OP, it's a minority of people that do this (sort of) of course being a smaller channel you WILL notice it more (I get it a lot too) and it will feel like that's all you're going to get at times. Just delete their comments and move on. I'm 1 of those people who aren't willing to network because I like solitude and I'm not a very "out there" kind of person, so collaborating isn't a simple thing for me and most likely never will be so I have to look out for myself but I'm equally not willing to promote myself on someone else's channel either, unless that channel specifically allows it and even then I feel weird doing it, I still feel weird using the Videos and Channels section here and have to force myself to do it at times.

No, that's YOUR purpose, it's a good purpose and you should be focusing on that. But the actual purpose of YouTube was to be used as just another social media service; post a video much the same way you'd post a status on facebook or MySpace. Thankfully it has evolved into more than that.
No, it was not meant to be a social networking site it was always made to be a video sharing site, due to the fact that the creators couldn't find video clips of Janet Jacksons legendary Super Bowl Nip Slip online.

Yes, a video sharing site... used the same way people shared posts on other social media sites but instead of using text... they were using videos. It's still kind of the same principal as other social media sites today. I never said social networking, while it didn't become a thing for YouTube until much later, it's different from being a social media site. I think it's funny the way it was founded though xD Man, Google saw an opportunity and boy did they jump on it.

No it was not meant to be a privatized sharing site it was always meant to be an searchable open sharing community.

I never said it was meant to be a privatised sharing site either... but okay, if that's how you want to read it, then no, it was not meant to be a privatised sharing site, you are correct.

You said "Like Facebook or MySpace" indicating somewhat of a private social networking site. It wasn't meant to be like that, and it still is what it originally was created as.

From what you just posted there I can't tell if you understand or don't understand the difference between the words "like" & "same". Like Facebook or MySpace, similar to them, not the same as them, similar characteristics but not the same, just because I say 1 social media site is like Facebook or MySpace doesn't automatically mean a particular feature is the same, ALL social media sites are going to have the same goal but have different ways of achieving it whether the post is via text, audio, video, pictures or any combination of those. YouTube is a social media site, it has been since day 1. Being a "video sharing site" doesn't exempt it from being a social media site. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_media the first sentence will probably give you more clarity since I can't be bothered repeating myself.

You said like MySpace and Facebook yes. MySpace and Facebook are social networking sites like LinkedIn, YouTube is not, your original post said it was, that is why you said it has "Changed". You're not fooling anyone.

Since I don't think you even bothered to read the first line in the link, I'll post it here: "Social media are computer-mediated tools that allow people, companies and other organizations to create, share, or exchange information, career interests,[1] ideas, and pictures/videos in virtual communities and networks."
I.e. things like YouTube, MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Snapchat, instagram even LinkedIn (although it's more for business networking as opposed to social networking but it's still considered in part, a social media site regardless) and there's more.

There's nothing to misunderstand or nothing to seem as though as if I'm trying to fool anyone in what I said:

Saying "No, it was not meant to be a social networking site it was always made to be a video sharing site" is about the equivalent of saying "Twitter wasn't meant to be a social media site, it was meant to be a text sharing site". Only an idiot can deny that YouTube is social media, just because you post videos instead of text or photos. YouTube isn't any less of a social media site just because its core function is to share videos instead of text.

But if you want interpret it differently then fine, there isn't much I can do there because I don't know how else to explain what social media is. And I'm not trying to fool anyone, no 1 here seems to have a misunderstanding of what I said or what a social media site is apart from you, so I was trying to explain what I had said better for you to understand.

If you would actually read what I put you would realize I never said it wasn't a social media site I said it wasn't a social networking site like the two sites you listed, you said it was meant to be like Facebook and MySpace when it wasn't it was meant to be a video sharing site. Yes a video sharing site is a social media site but it's not like Facebook or MySpace in any other way. YouTube is meant to gain fans of your content not friends and this is how it has always been so if please explain to me how it's changed.[DOUBLEPOST=1467025102,1467025028][/DOUBLEPOST]Also it's 3 to 1 the only one arguing with me on this is you

The reason YouTube has changed is because people actually know what it is now beyond cat videos. Sure there are a lot of spammers, they click your video and comment that "your vid is nice now check out mine" thing without ever watching it, but you should just delete those and move on. The reason people are in it more for themselves these days is because it's so much harder to climb the YouTube ladder then it was when people didn't know a ladder existed. Back then people expected this to be just a hobby so they didn't have to worry about if they were taking a risky step or if they hadn't gained a new subscriber in awhile. Now though, despite everyone still claiming that subs don't matter (I do agree that you shouldn't dwell on numbers too much, but I digress) it's still going to bother people when they haven't gained any new ones for a while. So people are more careful now a days to not burn their bridges, so to speak, because youtube really only has one and if you screw up once the internet will hold it against you.
All of that aside though, there are still plenty of people willing to network and collab with others. It's just a matter of finding people who you really enjoy the content of and reaching out to them. Some people don't really know how to network with people so sometimes taking the first step yourself is necessary. Trying to talk to people with roughly the same subs is also a good idea, mainly because while the subs don't matter mind frame is still firmly in place, it's easier for both you and the person your networking with to take each other seriously if you're around the same numbers.
