YouTube has Changed.. Sadly

Cry me a river, letsplays absolutely destroyed actual original content like animation/short films/skits/etc. The community isn't genuine because you people killed it in attempt to ride the gravy boat to easy money, which is 99% of all LPs.

what a self righteous Bullsh*t thing to say. you do realise that there is unlimited space on youtube right? and also that their is a search bar so you can find the content you want? fair enough you clearly don't enjoy LP's. each to their own and all that. i don't enjoy vlogs generally. but there are millions of those channels and you could even argue that they are even easier to make. you don't even have to record game footage. to point a camera at your face. but actually i think its amazing that ANY sort of videos can find an audience on youtube. thats whats amazing about the place

i don't know how you think it somehow destroys original content. i'd love to hear your perverse logic for that one. gaming and LP's are popular because people like watching it. its as simple as that

regarding the original point of this thread. youtube is booming. people are realising you can make a lot of money if you do well, they just don't realise the work it takes to get there. people try to take short cuts. they kinda forget its never going to work, especially if the content just plain sucks. i don't think it happens any more than it used to. difference is there are tens of thousands more channels starting up everyday so it feels like more

This is very true, but I don't get too upset about it because there are viewers that actually do love what you put out their and respect you. Even the ones that are being selfish are helpful too. Leaving a comment shows Youtube that people are engaged.

Everyone has their niche. Sure, I make letsplays. I also vlog. You know, that thing that used to be popular in like 2009 or something?
I would love to produce more content, for different reasons, but I also want to make a name for myself. Not everyone is in it for the money. Wanna collaborate with a semi competent letsplayer, vlogger and an incompetent guitarist? hit me up.

People that complain about other people's intentions or the existence of other competition are doomed for failure.

Hate that people are trying to self-promote and become more successful? Go ahead, dwell and watch you stay exactly where you are while those others actually find more success while you continue on loathing someone that has no bearing to your life whatsoever.

Hate on channels just because they're "let's plays" or any other genre you don't like? Go ahead, dwell and watch you stay exactly where you are while the "competition" actually find more success while you continue on loathing someone that has no bearing to your life whatsoever.

Concentrate on yourself and make better videos. You'll find a lot less time complaining when you're actually busy being successful.

PictureFIT is the best.

Everyone gets the "sub for sub?" or "I rly luv ur stuff. I subscribed, sub back?"

It's hilarious for me. Do they really think I won't notice my 19 subs jump up to 20? Haha, know what I mean?

Meanwhile I just carry on doing my thing, because it gets views every day and my own subscriptions actually grow and I've actually gotten some heart lifting comments by kids who seem to legit watch my videos and enjoy them haha. The best thing I've seen was a kid who comments on my videos regularly and on one he said "First" like I was a super star or something haha

Gaming has actually allowed YouTube to grow as big as it is now. I had no interest in YouTube before let's plays and gaming videos became a thing (probably still wouldn't in the slightest bit) and it eventually lead me to finding some non-gaming channels I liked watching as well, I didn't even know what a Vlog was and thought it sounded like the stupidest thing I had ever heard until I got hooked into them. Take it away and I'm pretty sure people like you will just be complaining about the cat & dog videos (& now days vine compilations) that dominate it instead. If your "animations/short films/skits/sketches etc..." aren't showing up in the search fields, you need to work on your SEO. And if people aren't searching for that kind of content well reality check: it's because they don't like it, if they don't like it, they won't search for it, it's really simple logic. It's like me saying Minecraft killed my WhateverGameTitle vids because people searched for Minecraft instead of my vids, how DARE THEY! But the bigger the YouTube community, the higher the chances of other genres of channels being found. This is an opportunity for the other genres to jump on, and many of them have, even companies like Disney have jumped in on YouTube, comedy talk shows like Jimmy Kimmel, Conan O Brien and that other guy (I forget his name but he looks like the dude from How I Met Your Mother) all have YouTube channels that are a heavy focus for them or who ever runs them, all of which are VERY successful non-gaming channels.

As for the original OP, it's a minority of people that do this (sort of) of course being a smaller channel you WILL notice it more (I get it a lot too) and it will feel like that's all you're going to get at times. Just delete their comments and move on. I'm 1 of those people who aren't willing to network because I like solitude and I'm not a very "out there" kind of person, so collaborating isn't a simple thing for me and most likely never will be so I have to look out for myself but I'm equally not willing to promote myself on someone else's channel either, unless that channel specifically allows it and even then I feel weird doing it, I still feel weird using the Videos and Channels section here and have to force myself to do it at times.

However, that's the whole purpose of YouTube is networking with others and building relationships! It's so crazy to me.
No, that's YOUR purpose, it's a good purpose and you should be focusing on that. But the actual purpose of YouTube was to be used as just another social media service; post a video much the same way you'd post a status on facebook or MySpace. Thankfully it has evolved into more than that.
