Why are you a Copycat?

Krow

I've Got It
This is an honest question for people who are copycats. Recently i saw a guy who made videos exactly like ASAP Science. Same concept, same style, same graphics. Very few changes. That made me wonder why some people turn into authentic copycats. When you do this what do you expect? What's your mental process? You look at some popular youtuber and think: "Well, if i do the exact same thing he does, maybe i will also become popular". Is this your line of thought? Because if it is, i can guarantee you that, for the most part, it doesn't work. So, if you're a copycat, you should real stop being one. Just my 2 cents.

A channel called "WonderWhy" which started 2 years ago, I could argue that he was a "copycat" of CGPGrey and perhaps a few others and he now has over 270,000 subscribers.

You can dislike it and rant about it but in reality it has a slightly better chance of succeeding than something new based on the fact that they know it works already.

The fact that some people have succeeded at being copycats doesn't mean that's the norm or that should be your main approach. Look around you. You will find so many copy
If they are making their own twist on other peoples work, then what´s the problem?
At least it´s better than reaction videos that Jinx does!

Most people i i would call copycats aren't making a twist of nothing. They're just copying others. The reason i'm curious is simply i would never in a million years think about trying to emulate what others are doing. So i genuinely wonder why people do it. Do they have trouble coming up with original ideas or they simply think that by copying others they might achieve the same success?

Give us some examples of that? who copies who? or is it just in general?

We do because what you define as a "copycat" might be completely different and therefore the basis of this we might completely disagree on so therefore I think giving some examples would be helpful in explaining what you mean exactly.

I don't think you need examples of what a copycat is. You will find plenty here. I'm just curious about their line of thought.
I want to be (Somewhat) similar to VanossGaming or either of their friends. I do not want to be intentionally famous, but I have always wanted to get into IT and also YouTube by other inspirations. The thing that makes me want to copycat others however is to have good friends, as I never really had the type of friends he has. All interested in the same thing, laughing together. That's one of my dreams to actually have a trusting group of friends. That's why I do YouTube because it involves IT, and it is (I believe) the biggest social media site on the planet. So yeah.

I know Caddicarus started as a clone of Jontron (but British) and he blew up. He was able to spin off and do his own thing a little and now he's pretty big. I swear I saw another clone of Jontron too, but I can't remember the name. He also got pretty big. I can't even copy my own style from video to video, so I don't think I'll ever have to worry about that if I somehow blow up.
