What Are YOUR Thoughts on "Self-Promotion"?

Unfortunately people don't just ignore such posts. They tend to go to the channel to spread some hate especially when the post is worded the right way. If you then can present a top notch channel it's a win for you.
fair enough, f**k being associated with that lol

I cant stand comments begging for you to watch their videos and stuff. But I do "self promote" a little bit I think by commenting on other videos that are related to mine. These are always videos from people I am actually subbed to, and I watch the videos fully. I just sometimes try hard to think of a funny comment or even just leave a nice comment pointing out something they did well or something. And sometimes I do it hoping people see it and click on my channel. Is that bad?

Wow people are emailing now? see that gets even further into the relm of desparate and something you really shouldnt do haha i get you can network with other people by email but jesus haha

I think it ties into if your content is actually worth the click you're asking people to give. As annoying as it might be, you can easily skim past the comment and not frustrate yourself over it. The only person that is taking risk or detriment with the comment is the Youtuber posting the comment themselves. If they're willing to put themselves into the eyes of people where 95% of the people will automatically hate them and only 5% might actually be curious, then they're saying, "I'm willing to bet my content is worth piquing the interest of that 5% and taking the heat from the 95%." That's either someone with confidence in their content or someone that couldn't care less about the people that have a predisposed judgment about them.

I personally do find it a bit annoying but at times I do find a channel that was well worth the click. After all, all YouTubers have to get promote themselves one way or another and if they truly believe in themselves, who am I to judge them for trying?

I can kinda see where you're coming from but, I find it disrespectful to my own content when they come to my channel to promote theirs. I also instantly lose all respect for them which affects my view on their channels which otherwise I would have clicked on if they simply placed a genuinely interested comment. Then again, a lot of people try to act casual to avoid being put into the spam folder but at the end of the day, it's so feckin' obvious when they're trying to get you to click lol

I self promote in the places where it is appropriate, I dislike to do it on/at anyone else work because I feel like I'm disrespecting that person and the work that went in their video.... for me it's the biggest sign of disrespect and ruining your own community... sorry if it sounds harsh but I just can't stand it when someone does it.

It takes a lot of work to make that work, and you garner a whole lot of bad feelings from creators who really want to just make the best content they can, I think. I find the regular promotion (going to forums, engaging with my audience in comments, visiting the subscriptions I really want to keep up with) is a lot of work on its own, so I would find it utterly exhausting to try to "promote" in that way. Plus, that's time I could spend learning more about how to make better videos and planning out better content.
