The Subscriber Secret!

So put annotations within the first 30 seconds of your video which allows your viewer to click on it and go straight to a Subscribe link! This is a huge factor in gaining subscribers!

No offense, but this is not true and it's bad advice. Don't do this unless your intention is to p**s people off. Annotations are extremely annoying if they're used anywhere other than the end of the video in the outro. Whenever I'm on a video doing this, I'm leaving the channel and never going back and I'm definitely not subbing.

When you see things like this on a YT video:

These are annotations.
Oh I see yeah I always see that and I always remove it while wAtching movies in YouTube. I hate it when the channel has that. It's a bother. I won't also put that on my baby's video if she starts her channel

I must admit to feeling exactly the same about annotations. Out of interest, how do you feel about the channel branding icon overlay (the one in the bottom right of the video that can be clicked on to fly out a subscribe button)?

That is much better than doing it with annotations because it's less intrusive but I still don't use that feature.

If someone is watching my video, then I don't want to do anything that will distract him/her from watching as much of that video as possible and then hopefully watching another of my videos and then another. I tend to focus on the views and watch time and I let the sub count take care of itself. If people want to sub, they will do so. Also, it's perfectly fine to have a "sub" annotation in the outro at the end of the video if you want to remind them.

In the long term, it's views and watch time that will drive the growth of a channel, not the sub count. Some people sub to a channel as a way of "bookmarking" it or putting it in their "favourites" and then they go off and do something else without actually watching the end of the video or watching any videos at all and then they never return because they don't really know your content.

There's a few videos of mine where I put those annotations earlier in the video. Its funny to see so many people closed the annotation from the analytics. >.>

It's funny because the annotation is just there for 3 seconds. People are so quick to just click X. They probably thought the annotation would be there for the entirety of the video like most videos do.

This is from one of my video for this month:

Funnily, even the annotations at the end of the video gets closed which only lasted 4 seconds... I'm like eh? No click through, yet a lot of X's. I get a lot of suggested views from this video yet not much from annotations. *shrug* Either I'm using it wrong or people just don't like annotations on videos or the next video on the annotation didn't catch their interest haha... <.<" ha...

Has anyone had any positive results with annotations or cards? I've been using them because that is always mentioned in stuff you read about "How to have a successful YouTube channel." It doesn't seem to do much for my channel though.

Exactly what I was thinking,

Don't annotations clutter your videos and act as a distraction, tbh I hate videos with annotations, I actually would click off the video and do something else.

I do agree with channel art and thumbnails, logo etc.

And its all about watch time (view retention) more then anything - when your new short 4 min videos are perfectly long enough for people to watch and enjoy :)

Hey there! Its The Halfrican and today I want to discuss the Secret to getting more Subscribers!
Although I am a new YouTuber I have gained 40 Subscribers in just 7 days! The Secret to more Subscribers is actually fairly simple! You must first understand what a potential Subscriber is looking for in a great channel! The biggest and most IMPORTANT tip I can give is to make your channel look extremely polished and professional. Make sure that your Channel Art is clean and unique and your profile picture is as well! ALSO THIS IS SO SO IMPORTANT! Annotations in your videos are so important because as viewers we struggle to watch an entire video simply because we are constantly being engaged by outside sources. So put annotations within the first 30 seconds of your video which allows your viewer to click on it and go straight to a Subscribe link! This is a huge factor in gaining subscribers!
