My Setup.

right, I figured, but how do you view yourself in the shot, then? I found it difficult to place the camera. And since I do a lot of cut shots, I constantly have to check and readjust...

p.s. the "grasp" part sounded a little condescending :]
I am SO sorry if it did, I definitely didn't mean to sound that way. People ask me how I get my iPhone to stay still without an angle and I have to get in the tripod. Google Diffcase and that's how I get it on a tripod.

Okay as far as self viewing, it's simple. I place a tall-standing mirror behind my camera. I initially did this because Filmic pro would overheat my phone sometimes and stop filming (updates fixed that, praise goodness). But after the update and no more overheating, I started keeping it there anyway just to see where I am. Thanks for asking!

My suggestion would be to get something separate to record audio. Relying on the iPhone mic is iffy.

For a while, I used an iPad 3 in a tripod, and it worked fairly well - nice 1080p quality. But you really need to use something else for sound. They're just not built for it.

You got it! VGA is a waste of time, for the most part.
I use the VGA sometimes, when I'm too lazy. XD

Anyway, my setup:
My Camera: Canon 650D / iPhone 5
Capture Software on the iPhone: Just the plain old camera app.
Lighting: A bent neck lamp from IKEA and I put a white shirt over it so it isn't so strong
Editing computer: Windows 7, AMD FX-6100 6 Core 3.3 GHz, 16GB RAM, 1TB HDD
Editing software: Sony Vegas 11/12

Suggestion: Get Final Cut Pro X. It is amazing!

My setup:
Mic: Blue Snowball
Cameras: Go Pro HD Hero, Flip camera, Logitech webcam
Macbook Pro with 16 GB of RAM, Final Cut Pro X, Photoshop and After Effects
Wacom Bamboo
Razer Deathadder mouse
N64 Controller + USB Adapter
Sega Genesis USB controller
Xbox 360
Hauppauge HD PVR
Old Dell PC for overflow work projects and my render b***h haha
Dynex 24" monitor
N64
FCP X? It reminded me a lot of Adobe Premiere and made me a little nervous. But I might toy with it just to expand my horizon. I wanted to buy the GO PRO, but I saved money using my phone.

It's much more similar to iMovie than Premiere in my opinion. As for the Go Pro, I got lucky and won it in a raffle so that saved me a ton

White T-shirt... I need to try that. I've been debating with myself over a nikon or a canon, when the time comes. Do you like Vegas? I might switch to a windows environment.
