Yeah, that actually makes sense.i think the change was made to be more biased towards official channels like peppa pig, etc. So all 3rd party channels using copyrighted characters like peppa pig, disney lost their traffic because it was redirected towards official channels like peppa pig.
I completely agree. I operate a kids channel with over 200 million views. We did it for fun and we will still do it for fun even when the ad money goes away. At one time, our channel was making a very significant amount of money; however we refused to follow the trend that Youtube was allowing. I complained to Google about their lack of control and they just ignored it. I kept my real full time job and funded college accounts. We took some great vacations and bought a lot of cool toys. We could have put profit above all else and rode this straight into the ground like a lot of other channels. We did not and instead continued to advocate for change. Finally the FTC has stepped in and forced compliance with the law. To all those that turned a blind eye in the name of money and followed the inappropriate kid trends, shame on you. For those that followed those bad trends to get big and then suddenly changed to act like they care about good content once they got the subscribers and endorsement deals, shame on you. Youtube is a wonderful thing and kids content will survive. It will just survive without all the greedy and exploitative content creators that failed to protect the most innocent, our kids. Many of these big channels that blew up on the backs of Elsagate, bad baby, and borderline child nudity, shame on you. We can't erase the past, but we can change the future. He doesn't own the rights to Peppa Pig, Toy Story and all the other copyrighted and trademarked characters he has on his channel. Why does he think he should earn money off the backs of other people's creations? In the above video, he says he "loved" making those videos and he's now really upset. Well why is he stopping then if he "loved" it so much ? That's a rhetorical question btw. We all know it was all about the money. Based on his view count, he has made $100k+ in a year. He should be thankful he earned so much for so long.
FTC has no problem with kid content. You cannot judge art. The problem was about data collecting from viewers under 13
Data collection maybe illegal but making kid content is not. Look at peppa pig they target under 13. Even Disney with their short cartoon like let it go. So they should ban all cartoons on tv tooBased on the FTC document linked above, the FTC does seem to have a problem with kids content on YouTube. Read the case study of "ChuChuTV" - The FTC highlights how they have proof that "ChuChuTV" (and many other kids channels) are actively targeting a demographic of children under 13 and how that is in direct violation of COPPA. The data collection is only part of the story.
