Massive drop in views on kid channels

I don't plan on monetizing my channel (it's very small and just started anyway), so I'd be fine with marking "kid friendly" as long as I got to keep comments, subscriber notifications, algorithim listing, etc, but with no interest-based ads. The main issue with me is viewer engagement and search ranking. Why can't youtube allow comments on kid friendly videos? Is it because they need to track info for those comments? Is it possible for them to allow comment capabilities without tracking any kid's info via cookies? I would think so, but I'm not versed in those things. There has to be a way to let kid-friendly channels keep their viewer engagement without threatening kids' privacy.

I think it's to keep them from seeing people swearing in the comments and to keep out sick creeps from saying things to the kids.

some progress is being made. Specifically for videos in gray area directed to general audience. The lawyer jeremy johnston was talking to ftc and youtube about a mixed audience exception. A gamer kreekcraft was talking to ftc about it. And melissa hunter is going to announce something tomorrow. Probably will be about this response from youtube.
Mixed audience for family vlogs means 25 million kids and about 45 non-kids. Maybe this would work for gaming channels, but I think allowing family vlogs to classify as mixed audience would be very deceptive. Adults don't watch that stuff.

Yeah still lots of gray area. I’m sure this falls along a spectrum of family vlogs. But it is not promising for family vloggers that FTC cited “braytayley” channel as an example of kids content. https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/documents/cases/172_3083_youtube_revised_complaint.pdf

What we re supposed to do in any case? isn't the deadline December 9th to select an option? I haven't select either for kids or not for kids yet. What the f*ck im supposed to do? what happens i I dont select anything?

How can we decide if they are accepting comments on the FTC until december 9th so nothing is final, but terms are applied on december 10th? what the hell is going on.

If you don't make the choice, the choice will be made for you via YouTube's bots.

Jeremy isn't going to save us guys... at the end of the day, the public's opinion is going to amount to what the privacy advocate guy could say in 10 seconds (Jeremy is whining about his ad revenue and wants your kids to be in danger) versus what didn't air because Jeremy can't really describe the full situation in less than 10 minutes (maybe purposefully... you know... for the ad revenue). Odds are stacked against us. One thing I am tired of is small time creators saying that their channel is going to be shut down (now there's a juicy thumbnail) even though they have no intentions of doing so.

Yep. Resounding gong of reason here. Change niche family vloggers (bonggg). Change niche kids vloggers (bonnggg). Go. Go now. Don't stand there staring out into the ocean waiting for something to happen for this sinking ship.
