Is there a list of monetizable covers?

You physically can't enable monetization with a sound recording.
Is that a new thing? I haven't even tried to enable monetization on a video with an actual copyrighted music track but I know you used to be able to monetize it only to have it be reclaimed by content ID after a couple hours with or without a copyright strike depending on whether they wanted the video removed or just wanted the monetization from it. Are you saying that right now I can't even click the monetize box on a video with any song from that ad-supported library in it? Does the box not appear or something? I haven't tried it, like I said.

From what I have a seen. As soon as a copyright claim is put on any of my videos the monetization box green color dollar symbol next to the video in the video manager is gone.

Here is a screen shot. The second video of mine has a claim on it. the dollar symbol is missing.

I had no idea you could monetize song covers! I have a second channel where I sing covers, but I'm always afraid youtube is gonna take the video down for copyright issues.

that's why you use the network I suggested
That's certainly the safest bet, but I can't imagine that Youtube would encourage you to monetize a cover and then, if the copyright holder changes his mind and disallows monetization, slap people with a copyright strike. The worst that would happen is that you would lose monetization of that video. I still don't see that happening though. If the network offered a low enough split or other benefits that would warrant forking over a percentage I would consider it but otherwise I'd just go through Youtube. It would be a calculated risk.[DOUBLEPOST=1433607490,1433607342][/DOUBLEPOST]

Yeah but if you tried to monetize it as soon as you uploaded it it would allow it until the content ID happened, no? And then, depending on what the copyright holder wanted, you could be slapped with a copyright strike. Theoretically. That's all I meant. I understand that after the content ID you can't physically monetize it.

I've gotten content ID during the upload[DOUBLEPOST=1433629580][/DOUBLEPOST]

FYI,

You tubers have gotten copyright strike while revenue sharing.

It must be an isolated case or they did something wrong. I've never heard of any widespread problem monetizing covers with the new system. That's probably 1 in a million. If you have a link I'd love to read about it (we're talking purely about videos that show the text next to their video prompting them to monitize their cover, right?).[DOUBLEPOST=1433634963,1433634833][/DOUBLEPOST]

Oh, I'm sure that's possible...but I also haven't had content ID kick in for hours...had I tried to monetize it it would have let me.

It doesn't always let you. When I've tried with no content ID I get this notice saying it has music in it and I have prove it's mine[DOUBLEPOST=1433639201][/DOUBLEPOST]

Didn't you read the section of the content ID that says the policy can change? Also We Are The Hits lets you monetize right away and ever more covers than YouTube. With YouTube you have to wait for the Content ID to match. It could be months before you can monetize the song with YouTube. Not with We Are The Hits.

I guess it depends on how much of the music is in the video and/or whether the system recognizes it right away. I just tried it on one of my channels (somewhat foolishly) and it allowed me to monetize without telling me there was music in the video (I confirmed it had ads before immediately disabling monetization). Content ID still hasn't flagged it.
