Is there a list of monetizable covers?

I guess it depends on how much of the music is in the video and/or whether the system recognizes it right away. I just tried it on one of my channels (somewhat foolishly) and it allowed me to monetize without telling me there was music in the video (I confirmed it had ads before immediately disabling monetization). Content ID still hasn't flagged it.

But I don't think
You are understanding the difference in explaining between YouTube and we are the hits. We are the hits grants you 100 percent permission YouTube does not.

I'm not knocking 'we are the hits'...I'm just saying that if it's true what another person said, that 80% of all songs on YT are eligible for revenue share through Youtube, that depending on the split, I would probably take the calculated risk that the artists YT have an agreement with will not back out of their deals and that YT only has that clause in there to cover themselves in case that most unlikely of events were to happen. Unless it is a 90/10 split I don't think it would be worth it (unless they offer other features/services that give more value to a less attractive split). That's just my opinion.

I don't think that many songs are part of it. I know kobalt isn't as I've asked them. Kobalt is part of we are the hits. They have more songs I'm interested in covering.

Well of course that would be a big part of any decision. I'll check them out either way.

I have been testing the cover song thing via YouTube and I've been uploading covers I've made to another channel for a test. Whenever I go to monetize the cover it always tells me I don't have permission. Another thing that happens is that the button always vanishes ever so often to allow cover monetization and then it comes back.

I'm going with We Are The Hits[DOUBLEPOST=1433689661,1433688232][/DOUBLEPOST]
OK. Here is what I see:

For the cover I monetized it and I was waiting for a link to appear. It took around 24h.

It seems now we can use the playbacks of many popular songs. I think this is a beta version of new option and soon it will be available for almost all YT channels.

Can you do me a favor and search "Handy" by weird al and see if you are seeing revenue sharing next to it? I'm curious because one of the labels that owns that song told me they don't allow revenue sharing

Checked - handy by weird al yankovic - does not allow monetization.

that's what I thought :) It's good to know that the company I talked to is correct. I've had some companies be wrong before.

From what I gather three major publishers/labels that let you share in revenue directly with YouTube are 1. Sony/EMI 2. Warner 3. Universal and the last one Bug Music

The ones that We Are The Hits allow are all the ones YouTube allows plus Kobalt and more.

I went through the motions of signing up with WATH just to see their terms but it's a little confusing to me. The percentages I mean. And who the hell knows what Youtube's revenue split is when it comes to covers. Fortunately covers aren't a huge thing to me...if I decide to start doing them I'll have to figure some of this out.

well this is ridiculous. I tried uploading a cover song I made and uploaded it through WATH. They never claimed my video and it's allowing me to monetize the video myself. I'm pretty sure that's not correct.[DOUBLEPOST=1433782198,1433744028][/DOUBLEPOST]

I can't even get them to respond to my emails.
