Is there a list of monetizable covers?

well that makes no sense. My friend in the USA uploaded a cover of Gangnam Style and the ad revenue sharing was allowed.[DOUBLEPOST=1433501711,1433501624][/DOUBLEPOST]

I even selected Japan at the bottom of YouTube and the thing still isn't showing up. A YouTuber I know says 98 percent of songs in the world is enabled for revenue sharing

That means it is on channel by channel basis not country. Strange.[DOUBLEPOST=1433501922][/DOUBLEPOST]May be it is still beta-version.
I remember receiving notification about it a month ago in the dashboard.
Did you receive such?

that's odd. I've been seeing "Monetize this cover" button since last year for hundreds of songs I've uploaded and my friends. All the songs that have this button don't say "Revenue Sharing" in the list of songs. I checked.[DOUBLEPOST=1433502120,1433502063][/DOUBLEPOST]

I have "Monetize This cover" button on Led Zepplin, Joan Jett, Michael Jackson etc. But non of he songs list that in the list.

I think covers are slightly different.
In this list you can see songs which you can directly use (the original sound and vocals) in your movies and still can get part of the revenue.

You can't share in revenue with audio recordings. That's been confirmed for me by record labels. Only covers can share in revenue. Now I'm very confused.[DOUBLEPOST=1433502717,1433502441][/DOUBLEPOST]

I think the rules are starting to change but I am not expert in the field.
Anyway I will investigate further when I go home.

Like I've stated a couple times...I believe this is simply a difference in how Youtube in Japan and Youtube in USA handles monetizing covers. When you monetized 'Rolling in the Deep' did you just monetize it or did you have to wait for a link to appear beside the song that allowed you to monetize the video and share in the revenue?

I do not believe this is on a channel by channel basis at all...I think it's a country thing.

If that's true then there really isn't the need for the list I was asking about. That would be great.

OK. Here is what I see:

For the cover I monetized it and I was waiting for a link to appear. It took around 24h.

It seems now we can use the playbacks of many popular songs. I think this is a beta version of new option and soon it will be available for almost all YT channels.

I'm going to use We Are The Hits Network. They let you monetize over 3 million covers and get you the license and your video never can get removed. YouTube's system can get your video removed as the policy can change.[DOUBLEPOST=1433513619][/DOUBLEPOST]

But there is a notice saying the policy can still change. Until YouTube gets rid of that you still run the risk of their being a copyright strike or blocked video

When Michel first posted the link that's what I said too in my subsequent comment, but then Chottam then chimed in that they used that list to determine which songs they can cover and monetize, hence this conversation. The list clearly says on their japanese Youtube that the song is eligible for revenue sharing....so either they can share in revenue of musical recordings that they use in their videos (which would surprise me) or they are talking about covers...or maybe it goes for both over there. I don't know.
