@MF Patrick Wow. I didn't expect anyone to take my post that seriously. Again, I don't know a ton of about gaming channels.
However, I have been on YouTube since 2008 and in that time I have seen gaming grow exponentially on YouTube.
There is a YouTube network called Freedom and I noticed a lot of people in their network were small gaming channels run by teenagers. So I watched some of them and through that found more small gaming channels where kids who had no idea how to play the game and the audio was bad. I'm just noticing now, that I only watched really big gaming channels (1 million subs+) and really small amateur gaming channels (under 300 subs), nothing in-between. So compared to the amateur teenagers I watched it was clear why PewDiePie was more popular then a 15 year old with horrible audio and no personality trying to be PewDiePie. I guess I just assumed that all smaller gaming channels were horrible because most of the ones I watched were. I don't know that much about gaming and I failed to look at medium sized gaming channels and maybe some of them would have good content. Again, I don't know very much about gaming but I could tell that PewDiePie was really good at commentating, at least compared the other gamers I watched.
As for the whole career thing, all I said is I personally find it weird that people want to play video games as full time job. I never said it wasn't allowed or people shouldn't want to be a gamer. However, in my opinion I think it is weird to aspire to play video games for a living. But that might just be because I don't play video games often. I know some people might disagree with me and that is okay. I have no problem with someone wanting to make a living or actually making a living paly video gaming. Just the idea of aspiring to play video gaming for a living sounds a little bit weird to me. To me, sitting in chair playing video games ten hours a day would get boring really quick. One of the others reasons I find it werid is because I didn't think there was anything you could do besides YouTube. So thank you for pointing out that there are tournaments and sponsors.
I really don't want to get into a big argument over this. Obviously you have a lot more knowledge of the gaming industry then me but, I am still allowed to have my own opinions.
I wasn't trying to be rude or anything.
Well, the quality thing could be said about vloggers, comedians or any other cathegory on Youtube. I mean, you watched someone who just started and tried to compare them to the biggest channel on Youtube. It's obvious that the guy with the biggest channel on Youtube will have better equipment. But if you watch someone who decided to commit to Youtube, you will find good audio-video quality, better commentary and in general better content.
The thing is, you said you saw small gamers not being able to play their games and they had terrible audio quality.
Well, PewDiePie is the same thing but he has good equipment.
And I don't see a difference between making a living while playing videogames and having a job in some kind of office.
I'm an architect and I spend most of my work time in front of a PC. And I do it 6-8 hours a day. Where is the difference between me and the professional gamer? Well, the difference is that if he's good, he earns a lot more than me ( this year's International had a $10M prize pool. The winner won 5M. ).
To make a living as a gamer on Youtube doesn't require 10 hours a day. If you are a professional gamer, well in that case it is possible. You need to practice and get better in order to win and earn your daily bread. As a Youtuber you need 2 hours tops + the editing process. And in 2 hours you can produce 2 hours of content which can be split into 20 minutes long episodes and that means 6 episodes. In 2 hours of recording you have enough content for 1 week (obviously this depends on your uploading schedule)...
And yeah, you can have your own opinion and I have nothing to say about that.
I just wrote down a few facts that some people don't know and they should know them before making their opinion.[DOUBLEPOST=1408699454,1408698232][/DOUBLEPOST]
@@MF Patrick mmmmmm This is a gray area for me. It's like that argument people make with movie types and a person preferring the summer blockbuster over a movie that won an oscar. It's vastly unfair to say that everyone who watches pewd is of a certain type of mental capacity or age. I watch informational gaming channels to be informed and I watch pewds to be entertained.
I think Seinfield and his observational humor is brilliant but sometimes I prefer Katt Williams and his ghetto persona. Everyone has different tastes, one isn't better than the other it is just different.
I think 2001 space odyssey (after repeated viewings) is the most overrated dreck I have ever seen in my life, and get crushed every time I say that. I also think Transformers and Michael Bay are an awesome combo.
See, 2001 Space Odyssey is really overrated. It's a great movie but people give it way too much credit. Transformers is a good series full of special effects and stuff but the comparison with PewDiePie is non-existent.
Transformers is a movie ( I saw only the first 2 if I remember right) that targets families, kids, teens and people who want to watch a movie just to kill some time. But it is a high quality production. It's not original and and it doesn't bring anything new to the game but still, it can be entertaining ( and it features Megan Fox so a lot of people will watch the movie just because of that).
PewDiePie is a 25 ( I don't know his age, I'm just guessing ) years old man acting like a 12 years old with brain damage. All he does is screaming random f**k, d**k, boobs and a** here and there, he's terrible at playing videogames and his commentary is non-existent because it's just him screaming random s**t.
Tell me, how can that be entertaining for more than 1 minute for someone who doesn't need to hide from their parents to say the word "f**k" ? Or is past that age when a bad word was funny to hear ?
To be honest, when I saw his videos for the first time I was like "Who's this retard and why is he acting like that?". After 2 minutes I was done with him.
It's not entertaining, it's not informative, it's not funny, it's just low quality and low effort content.
Again, a 12 years old kid will laugh for days watching PewDiePie. A mature person will not.
That's just my opinion and obviously you can have yours but I don't find PDP funny or anything like that.
I just don't think that a mature person will start and giggle because someone said "f**k".
