It's been uncomfortable the few times I've done it, but gotten easier with time. I imagine that is the case for a lot folks.

YES I DO. Sorry for shouting but its one of the few fears I've conquered because of YouTube :') I used to be dreadful because I cared what other people thought of me talking to a camera however I went to America on holiday and filmed the whole 3 weeks including my family and gave very little thought to anyone who looked at me funny. Equally I went to Summer In The City (YouTube convention) and that was an extra confidence boost given that everyone was talking to their camera too :D
My advice is just to do it and keep doing until you're no longer uncomfortable :)
I wanna go to a YouTube convention =/ How did you do that?[DOUBLEPOST=1444634300][/DOUBLEPOST]
Yes I vlog in public and yes, even after 2 years of doing it, I sometimes feel a bit awkward.
I first attempted public vlogging in 2011 for one of my videos and it took me about 10 minutes to film one clip as I was waiting for the train station to become less busy before I pressed record haha! The video is still on my channel and my awkwardness makes me laugh.
Now, I don't care where I am or who I'm with (or if I'm on my own!)... I vlog easily and just block out the people. I focus on the camera I'm holding in from of me and what I'm trying to say, fully aware that there are people looking at me weirdly, but not caring at all because I want to make the best video possible.
So I've stopped feeling embarrassed by it thanks to practice, but I do still sometimes experience awkward moments when random strangers come up to me whilst I'm happily vlogging and ask if I want them to take a photo of me!! I always find those incidents funny.
I am going to start vlogging in Public tomorrow at the dog park =)[DOUBLEPOST=1444634535][/DOUBLEPOST]
I've vlogged in the parkinglot of a dealership, vlogged in my car and now also vlog on my motorcycle. It's in public, but it's not. I have no problem to do so though, if people ask I would just say that I do stuff on YouTube, and leave it at that.
I actually vlogged in my car today but had a hard time with the tripod =/ When i would stop or go over speed bump tripod would move =/ My camera was expensive!!! so i don't want that, I am trying to find a car tripod mount cup thing but i can only find gopro ones, my camera is a canon point and shoot with a selfie flip screen ;)

Most of my videos are shot indoors alone but some of them have been in busy public places. Keep in mind that when people look at you filming, they are not looking at you like you are weird. They see you talking to a camera and realize you're making a video.

I noticed that even our daughter (she makes YouTube videos since 6 years old) prefers to vlog in public together with her brother.
So nothing to worry here - just vlog with a buddy - he/she can just smile in the video - that's perfectly OK. :)

PS. And yes we try to avoid as much as possible filming other people faces when we vlog in public.

Ah man I struggle so much with the awkward feeling i get when ever I need to make a video. I am fine alone, but the moment there is another person who can hear me I do get a little embarrassed. But I find the easiest way to get over it is to include someone in the video with me. It becomes a more chilled video instead of me staring at a camera. I love vlogging but I guess I am lucky in a sense because here in Korea it's considered very normal to constantly be on your cell phone staring at yourself in the camera or taking selfies. it's really a weird phenomenon here!!! So when I walk around Koreans they dont even notice, and the ones that do, usually think I'm famous (LOL) I once got asked if I was Bradley Cooper. No seriously its ridiculous hahaha.

Bwhahahaha! you should have said yes xD

I film daily vlogs quite a lot, no matter where I am - at an airport, outside, in the shops, in busy cities like London... where ever! It's always a bit weird when you start filming, but then I think you just find your confidence and it's easy!

One thing I like to do, me and my friends call it "GOD MODE" where you pretty much just do something out of your comfort zone, something you wouldn't usually do and boom that should help! You usually feel a lot more confident and ready to do anything after entering god mode! A funny one is to always just shout something random in public, or talk to a random stranger. This usually helps me!

Anyways, good luck vlogging!!

I would love to vlog in public but don't want to carry around my camcorder. currently looking out for a decent phone and hoping I won't feel so self conscious with a phone in my hand.
