Calling all YouTubers under 1000k Subs

I don't think you can blame YouTube for not promoting your video. They give you the plaform to upload, you have to find a way to promote it.
It is extemely difficult for comedy videos, short films etc because noone is searching specifically for your title so I do understand your concerns. However, if your videos are truly good and something refreshing I am confident that you will make your way. Share your videos on whatever social media platform you are active at and people will share it if they really like it.

I think some people need to re-read my original post. I'm not looking for a get-rich-quick button or a 100-1,000,000 SUB button. I've been working 6 days a week 10 hours a day producing original comedy and I love it but my point is that YouTube doesn't allow smaller YouTubers to be discovered.

I'm amazed some people can argue that fact.

I'm happy to work hard and go through the same as everybody else but YT need to help smaller channels been seen and a discover tab can and will help, if only the few.
How can you say they don't let anyone get discovered? How do you think every Youtube channel started off. 0 subs. They then have to get discovered to grow.

Easy example is Leafy, his channel was stuck at 300k subs for what seemed an eternity, then suddenly he went huge and is by far the fastest growing channel on Youtube growing twice as fast as anyone at the moment. Do you think he did that by sitting and writing letters to Youtube? No, he believed in what he did and carried on doing what he knew one day would be succesful. I know we would all kill for 300k but it is the same at any level. At 6 weeks I had around 30 subs, at 3 months I had 110. It was from doing what I believed in and enjoying it. I stopped enjoying it after illness and only gained 10 subs, in fact losing around 15 in the process and having a hell of a lot of dead subs. Sitting and bitching about bad luck and Youtube not promoting me was never going to change it so I changed my channel and my first video in that new formula in 12 hours has the 6th highest views on my channel. My channel sits at 124 subs after 4 month. I can safely say that it is getting recommended by Youtube. I made a video that still gets views from search 2 months on, I hit #1 search ranking within 2 months of me making my channel, that is Youtube helping people discover me. Pity the video was terrible but hey ho that is my fault.

I know it is said a lot, but just do what you enjoy on Youtube, you will either make it big or not. Think how many millions of people want the exact same thing you do. Not everyone will make it on Youtube, in fact very very few do. All you can do is put your all in to it and pray the gods of luck are on your side. It is all any of us can do really. Your life will benefit from doing Youtube videos though, take this experience whichever way it goes and ensure you learn as much as possible from it.

I have to agree with The Bossman. How is Youtube supposed to promote your channel? And why yours specifically? Even if there was a discovery bar, who gets to be promoted there out of the tens of thousands of small channels?

I also disagree that Youtube doesn't promote video at all. When I watch a video, there's related content in the sidebar, and it's not just big channels.

The other question on my mind is what happens if someone with a million subs and always puts out high quality videos is told (or finds out) that they won't be featured on that one anymore and be replaced by some with almost no views (maybe of good quality or maybe not) so that they can be promoted. What would they say? It would be like a pilot being taken off a flight and replaced with someone who's never flown just to be fair, because they want to. Ok well there's enough to go around. So then this person goes from zero to a million but then is in turn told he's not being featured anymore for another zero. Well I don't think I'd like that much especially if I was done in by my own idea. but there will always be a newcomer looking to move up, and will if they can bring something that people want to see. So I say just keep making videos. Promote, buy ads or submit to websites. Be engaged and the audience will find you. As for never getting on the front page. Well there is a search engine and scroll bar to find everything else.

Yeah, it is really tough but I try to remind myself that all of my idols have been on nearly 7 years. I'm nearly 7 weeks, so maybe just by sheer persistence things will look up, not even in terms of money- just to have a group of people like friends who give you feedback and really care. I'm hoping keeping these things top priority will attract the "masses" everyone hopes for :)

6 weeks and he's already crying... It took me 4 years to achieve what some have done in 3 month so calm down dude, keep the motivation up and focus on making video. You already have a good start, some of your videos have great views.

The concept of having a section, even if it is very small, to help Youtuber's get discovered is actually a great idea!
Perhaps YT could run competitions on a weekly basis for those creating new content, and then they could host the ones they deem as winners in this section.
There should be criteria for it and it should probably be regulated by rules such as you need to have under 5000 subs, ideas should be original etc...

That would motivate new channels to create more content as well as the chance to be featured in this section!

Well done! So go post that letter to the CEO!!!

Kai.
