Calling all YouTubers under 1000k Subs

I'm a new channel (6 weeks old) and I'm already getting really upset with the fact nobody on YouTube can discover me...what do I mean?

Well, when I open YT I'm greeted with the trending videos, 90% of which are from huge channels with multiple millions of subs. I understand that this 'Trending' tab isn't actually videos that are trending, rather than the videos YT wants us to believe are trending because they are going to make the most amount of $$$. I'm fine with that but what really upsets me is there is no option to 'Discover' talent. Where the heck is that tab? How am I supposed to be discovered by people who just want a good laugh and are sick of cat videos?

You'd think YT would allow users to 'Discover' talent in each of their key areas...ie. Gaming, Comedy, Reaction (yuk), Makeup, How to...etc.

Maybe the highlight the top trending channels in each field under 1M, 500k,100k,1k subs so you can filter the talent.

This way you can see who's rising and who sucks in the field your actually interested in.

It's very disheartening for a startup channel when you'r relaying on Social Media to fuel your channel. I believe in myself, not to point where I'm rubbing my own rhubarb, but I really believe I've found a niche and I think I'm good at what I do, I'm not great but I'm good enough to garner more support if only people knew I was there!

So to that end, I've made the decision to write an open letter to the CEO of YT asking her why YT doesn't give me the chance to be discovered by the people who would love my work...and when that fails I'm going to take someone hostage at knife point until she answers me.

More like under 1M, 100k, 10k, 1k. AFAIK, that's how the tiers have worked on Youtube especially lately.
 
I think a discovery tab on youtube would be cool! But at the same time there's like thousands and thousands of 'small youtubers' so even if that was the case I think it'd still be very hard to get your channel featured/noticed. Just keep working and making the best quality content you can. Enjoy what you do- and hopefully the subs will come. I get that it's frustrating but as long as you enjoy it that's the main thing. It'll be interesting to see if you get a reply though!
 
The first thing you need to learn is that YouTube is a business, and businesses make money. They only have a finite resource (that front page) to promote their money makers. Money makers are big channels. Smaller channels such as you and I COST YouTube money. I know it feels unfair that the bigger keep getting bigger and the smaller, well... They stay small. It took me nearly 3 years to get to 2.8K subscribers for instance. But if you grow to be a big mainstream channel you wouldn't want it any other way.

In a sense I think the way it is weeds out the creators from the wannabe creators that are solely in it for the YouTube Fame and Cash.
 
I have been at it for a year now and am this close to reaching 50 subscribers - it takes time, and I know sometimes it seems unfair that other channels that you may think don't deserve the recognition are getting them, but they've worked hard to get there. I feel like a lot of people ignore the fact that these channels with millions of subs have been up for 5+ years (I see most of them having being started in 2008 or 2006) and probably are successful due to good timing, a good nitch, being consistent with their content, and being hella good marketers and promoters.

Want to know how to find smaller channels in your genre? Just search. If they have good tags, they'll pop up and you can watch them, and become their supporters or not. YouTube is a process that can be daunting at times, but keep at it.
 
The reality is that YouTube is a business and are out to make as much money as possible to keep on thriving and improve their company and we can't blame them for that! They are hustling in their own way. Unfortunately, us smaller channels do need to work super hard in terms of marketing and sharing ourselves but that's just the way that it is and all a part of the process.

It would be ideal if we could get handed on a platter, massive publicity. But then we would forsake ourselves by skipping the 'process' that everyone has to go through and exert blood, sweat and tears to achieve their versions of success. Keep on pumping on man, our time will come. The unworthy don't get rewarded, you take what's yours :)
 
I know I'm not below 1k subs (but I just wanted to reply). I decided to just send them some feedback about it from that Google Feedback thing that pops up when you click "Help" at the bottom of the YouTube page. This idea would be amazing and a great way for those amazing channels that never see the light to get to shine and show their talents.
