Any tips on drawing attention to comedy videos?

Whoa. I've heard Instagram success stories on this forum and it always confused me. I just looked at your tags, and I had no idea people were searching for gaming related stuff on Instagram... or anything that's not "pretty picture of a sunset", you know :O_o2: I'm following a few people but never had the desire to search for anything myself. Hmmm.

yeah i think you should definitely make an instagram account

Hm, I'd be very careful with that. If your retention is bad you may never get it back up again and it might kill the chances of your video being suggested.

From YouTube: "The algorithm for suggesting videos includes prioritizing videos that lead to a longer overall viewing session over those that receive more clicks."

Oh hmm that's really interesting. I guess I should pay more attention to watch time :/ it makes sense that YouTube would do that though, but that also makes promoting a small channel harder

If it,s funny, they will come
Those days on YouTube are long gone. They won't come if they don't know you exist.
Comedy especially is tricky, because it's not searchable content, and because everyone has a different sense of humour. So if the majority of YT viewers prefer pranks and silly challenges then that's what rises to the top, and the people who would appreciate your comedy never even get to see it.

In all honesty, I do believe that the quality of content matters, but also luck, networking and sharing. It's true that most people who watch youtube now watch it for gaming, music and pranks, but there's still people out there who prefer to watch comedy videos, including me :)

Of course, once a viewer watches your video, there needs to be something that'll make them stay. The question was how to be noticed in the first place.
So, yes, I'd say promotion is important until you're "big" enough to be picked up by the algorithm and then there's a whole lot of luck involved.

Absolutely! That's the use of social media and forums like YTtalk

I know I'm late to the party guys, but how does one go about promoting on Instagram with tags? Won't that look spammy or does Instagram not care?

You're not wrong on the educational video front! My channel is education and comedy, so it's certainly tricky finding newer viewers - but if you're a stubborn old tart like I am, you might be alright!

I think when it comes to comedy, the ultimate goal is being universally funny - and while being liked by everyone is impossible, you're a lot more likely to draw the fans in if you're relatable. So many comedians have accumulated their fanbases by making comments that cause their audiences to think, "Oh my god, yes!"
