Any tips on drawing attention to comedy videos?

I love creating comedy videos but I feel like it's SOO hard to grow a comedy youtube channel these day. Comedy channels do really well on youtube, but growing them takes so much time. You're trying to get people to invest in YOU most of the time.

Channels where you're addressing already established fanbases are much easier to grow but sometimes don't perform as well. Examples: Tech and Movie Reviews, Music Covers, or List and Educational videos.

I am very proud of my content, but it's soo difficult to get people to watch it. And it get's discouraging.

Any tips?

Thanks!

You wont be achieving instant success no one will, from your channel you have only being making content for two months which is not alot of investment time but you still seem to be drawing in a fair amount of views. What you need to do is advertise. twitter, facebook, instagram whatever social media you can think of, add all the correct hashtags so you videos appear in peoples feeds and go from there, over time people will come and if they like they will stay. plus collabing is pretty good and just try diffrent forms of comedy the more forms of comedy (skits for example) you can do the better!

Outside of YouTube, what are you doing? Twitter is a most excellent platform for short bursts of comedy, as is Snapchat. Give them a try if you're not doing so already. Twitter especially, since you can connect with big comedians, and it's easier to get a retweet or a conversation with someone famous there.

Just Facebook and Google Plus. I will definitely try twitter though. Thanks!

I've found Reddit to be pretty useful- don't spam though of course. I found relevant subreddits and posted comedy there, though do beware that people on Reddit like all social media can be a bit critical lol. Aside from promotion, it's just a fun site so I recommend checking it out if you haven't already

I hear ya. I get virtually no subs through YouTube, because no one searches for sketches and, even though there would be plenty of opportunities to be suggested, my videos don't get enough views / watch time to be considered for that. I'm guessing you're having the same problems :sour2:

95% of my subs found me through some form of promotion or "exposure", mainly this forum, my comments on other YouTuber's channels (big and small) and a shoutout.

Sadly it doesn't make sense for us to engage in communities like those on Reddit, Facebook, Google+ because we don't just cover one niche/topic, and either there are no general comedy groups or they're being spammed.

I have a Twitter account and had about 150 followers before I started posting videos but that only brought me a grand total of 2 subscribers. I hear people have some success doing follow4follow but that seems just as bad as sub4sub to me.

So, um, yeah... *scratches head*

Oh, I remember Tim Schmoyer being asked about how to grow a comedy channel and he suggested making videos about trending topics and collaborating.

Good usage of diffrent hashtags always, may, kinda, sometimes work but yeah never do that follow4follow stuff those people wont ever watch your videos.

Oh and that vampire skit was pretty good.

:depressed2: I've tried hashtags on Twitter, Tumblr and Google+ with zero results. I assume the only hashtags that are being monitored by people are the trending ones...?

And about trending topics... @JV Trammell ... since you vlog you may actually have a chance with this if you get in early. For me I need a week to make a sketch so by that time any "Damn Daniel" meme has died

Thank you! :vampire::D
