$8 a Month for Ad Free Youtube

It needs to be free, it was always free... However, I think the advertisements need to be a bit shorter... Like the 3 minute no skip'rs.

The adverts are pretty much fine as they are. It isn't that irritating unless your listening to YouTube videos. From the UK when we watch channels on demand they will play long as hell adverts which are very annoying.

I'm mixed at the payment fee really.

The problem of YouTube is that it is not very profitable for Google (it barely makes the money they invest in it). On the other hand it consumes huge resources which can be re-directed to more profitable enterprises. If they do not find a way to make YouTube profitable they may simply terminate it or just let it descent in irrelevance.
From that point of view any attempt from Google to make YouTube more profitable (including ads free payed service) should be welcomed.

Hmm..I haven't heard much about the paid subscription to YouTube. I think there was a bit of a flare up about it last year and a lot of people were against the idea, but I never really learned any of the details.

I only read the first few pages and the last few pages of this post, so this may have been discussed...but what would this do to the YouTubers who are not partners (assuming partners would get some of the subscription revenue)? Would YouTube be earning money off of them and keeping all revenue, or would all YouTubers immediately become partners from the moment they sign up with YouTube?

Also, do you think YouTube might become a bit obnoxious with the ads to encourage people to sign up with a paid subscription? =S I think I can picture paid subscriptions potentially creating a more stable income for content creators, but I can also see them driving traffic and content creators away..

Not to offend any YouTubers, but everything is better when it's free! Just think about all that cheap free stuff you excitedly drink/eat in an office just because it's there as a complimentary snack...would you normally feel that stoked for the watered-down coffee and weird chemical creamers it if you had to buy them from a store? Not all YouTubers create watery-coffee-and-chemical-creamer-like content (actually, a lot of it is more relevant to real life, and can be just as entertaining as high-paid celebrities in films), but most of us have different equipment and resources than high-budget production films. The YouTube bar has been raised pretty high over the years, and I think paid subscriptions would force the bar even higher. It think this might push content away from the "at home blogging real-life feel" to a more cinematic "Hollyweird," which would make me sad.. =( I like YouTube because a lot of it is extremely different from mainstream media...

There is no information available yet. It's all speculation at this point. I highly doubt that any of the subscription revenue will be shared with channels that do not enable monetization.

Wow! I can see them doing that, but I wonder how that would go down in the public eye.. The US is a very individualistic country, and what we think is "ours," actually depends a lot on using Google's stuff that they need funds to keep operational...It's Google's platform and they can do as they please, but I can imagine a lot of people (at least Americans) getting upset over the thought of their work "being used" for someone else's profit, and will blame it on not knowing about a button... =/

@KatyAdelson Some channels are not monetizing their video because they have sponsors and are getting paid outside of YouTube.

Some channels just do it for the fun. The amount of views for those types of channels are probably insignificant. That being said, they are getting free hosting for their videos.

I doubt that there will be a large adoption of paid subscriptions for an ad-free YouTube experience. I would expect the vast amount of content will still be ad supported.

I guess time will tell! I see this as the current situation based on what I'm used to now.. But, I don't see YouTube as something that might still exist the way I currently know it 20 years from now. I can imagine mainstream media, and internet people merging into one big "thingamabob" of some sorts in the next few decades... It'll be interesting to watch! =D

Today, I was requested to accept new terms. Somebody else posted a copy of those same terms here:

Since we have to opt-in for revenue sharing of the subscription fees, that means that channels that do not monetize or do not opt in will not be receiving any shares of such revenue.
