I use Blender 3D for my video editing and have never looked black. It does have a learning curve but it is really powerful when you have mastered it and it is free (open source).
It seems that I can't import the mp4 files directly. So, I need to export from Premiere in a different format. I will give it a try again once I have some free time to play with it.
I use Sony Vegas Pro 13 But If You Want Something For Free I Would Really Recommend Lightworks! Its Free And Has Been Used To Make Professional Movies!

Really? Interesting. I wonder what could be the error. A really great codec to use for working between Premiere Pro and Resolve is Cineform. If you don't have it on your system when you download GoPro Studio from gopro.com it will install Cineform on your machine. It's a high quality codec that works on Mac and PC.
I use the adobe suite for everything, Premiere for editing, after effects for fancy graphics that sparkle in your eye! and photoshop for the even fancier pictures!
